US Navy officer charged with spying

I heard some rumors that he was spying for Taipei and not Beijing, and I'm not too surprised by them to be honest. But that could just be a false rumor as it seems like its being reported that he was indeed giving Beijing secrets about the EP-3E Aries II plane. link

Oil prices are so low that some container ships are bypassing the Suez Canal and just sailing around Africa like in olden times.

Money quote:

For one thing, there are steep fees for using the Suez Canal – Maersk says these can be approximately $350,000 (£249,000) per ship. There are other costs, too. Rose George, author of Deep Sea and Foreign Going, was on board a ship using the Canal a few years ago. She notes that vessels must agree to taking on a Suez crew for the transit.

“[The Suez crew] seem to do nothing but listen to tinny radio and try to sell souvenirs,” says George, adding the ships often have to pay a cigarette ‘tax’.“On each voyage, Suez costs a ship about £400 ($560) of cigarettes, as well as dozens of chocolate bars from the bond locker.”

It's funny, because he was the subject of a PR campaign about immigration back in 2008.

Well, at least there's some good news for us.

One other piece of possibly-good news: the ANC in gauteng has now broken ranks and called for Zuma to resign.

This could signal the beginning of the end or the end of the ANC in gauteng, but either way it is heartening.

edit: just noticed that the actual announcement fell short of a call to resign ('do the right thing' ho ho ho) but things may change in a few weeks.

Through a glorious combination of mismanagement and terrible planning for the future, the USAF is facing a colossal manpower shortage; http://www.jqpublicblog.com/in-total-reversal-welsh-admits-air-force-is-on-verge-of-manpower-collapse/

Of course, stuff like this; http://www.jqpublicblog.com/osan-commanders-are-spying-on-dormitory-airmen/doesn't help with retention either.
