Also, whatever you're getting instead of the FN-49 had better be pretty great.  I'm still salty that I can't get it.

Hey, the FN-49 is pretty darn cool. I really want it... I am just not wealthy enough for all the guns I want.

The issue for me is I do techically have enough money to spend on this stuff without screwing myself over, I just like to keep a comfortable amount in the bank.  I'll have no issue affording it, I'll just want to adjust how I spend my spare money for a bit to bring myself back to that point.  Worse still is the Academy Sports in town has their Monarch 7.62x54r spam cans on clearance since they're being discontinued (cheap non-corrosive nugget food!) and I've got a friend really trying to get rid of stuff like an ACH helmet he's offering me for way lower than he should.  Translated, this means I'll likely buy all this stuff, regret seeing so much money go, but will eventually appreciate the short term hit for the long term savings.

Thing is that I am a fan of both of those little niches.  I very much enjoy my M39 and baby it a lot, anticipating my makarov to be blessed with similar treatment.  Long term, might get one of those fancy wood grips for extra style points.  It's a nice gun that looks nice and that makes me happy.

Stuff like the tokarev serves to fill the role of more dakka.  I have an unhealthy interest in things that go boom, and the tok is especially qualified in these regards.  Only thing holding me back from the cheaper $180 option is I don't want to end up paying the $200 regardless due to ordering replacement parts.  That, and I need to put a bandaid on the 1903 hammerless-shaped hole in my heart.

I was shopping for 7.62x25 a while ago, and I remember seeing steel cased "Red Army Standard" or some such Ukrainian nonsense for something like 33 cents per round, and Sellier&Bellot brass cased with crimped bullet and primer for the same exact price. The decision wasn't a difficult one.

Tokarev dakka is primo dakka though...

Sadly, i can't in good conscience recommend the czechnology flavored primo tok dakka anymore.

Especially since i too have a colt hammerless shaped hole in my heart I've crudely patched over temporarily with m57's and tt33's

If you patched that over with a true and proper TT-33, I don't think it would be that hard to move on from the pocket hammerless. That being said the pocket hammerless is super sexy, and I would still want one.

Terrible shame, you missed out on brand new Nickel plated casing Ruskie Elmer Keith 7.62x25mm bullets!

Are you buying premium Elmer Keith bullets to load it with from now on?

Not when I still have a bunch of 110 grain SJHP's.

Besides, I still have a bunch of Czech SMG ball for that.

The aforementioned gun store has a nice little CZ 52 there, though from my understanding, they're not entirely the best gun.  And on the topic of guns not being the best, does Century have any issues with not doing the best job on their guns?  I feel like there's not a single large gun dealer that you're going to hear people not try to hate somehow, but further reading leads me to believe that the FN-49 at the store is likely one of those that Century built from spare parts that came in when the guns were imported.

Ah, then I'm glad I didn't get it!

I'm only going off the assumption here that it is a century rebuild, I don't think I have any way to tell other than checking it in person.  Rebuilds would use beech wood instead of walnut, have a plastic buttplate, and lots of mismatched serial numbers.  The one rather poor quality picture I took isn't enough for me to really tell what it is.

Guessing though that this means Century guns tend to be subpar.

The rebuilds can be OK. They just aren't as valuable.

Ok, that was what my guess was.  I haven't heard anything good about Century, but I've not heard any specific complaints leveled against the rebuilt FN-49s either.  There is an auction for a fairly decent original Egyptian military contract FN-49 with bayonet on gunbroker with 4h left, but I don't use the site enough to know how much the price will shoot up at the last minute.  Currently sitting at $765 before FFL fees and shipping.

Unless the guys at the store throw me a really great pitch and decide to lower the price further or something, I intend to let this go by as well.  Would be a lot better for me to probably stick with commie handguns for now.

Originals are fine, and absurdly durable, save the firing pin.

If it looks frosty grey and the SN's are even and matching, it's fine.  Otherwise be cautious.

I've owned three '52's, wore a rebuild out, had an original stolen at a shoot, am now on my third, which has seen some hard wear and is doing just fine.

You have to work to damage one, like my first.  That one got fed absurd loads, and even more absurd handloads, before the locking/unlocking cam and the rollers began to give up. .

I still have mags where you can see where the bullet points hammered the front of the mag body from the recoil.

I ordered a new gun today.

Which is huge for me. I don't buy new things. Ask anybody, Colli, Sturgeon, they'll tell you. I'm a cheap bastard. It'll bite me in the ass and I don't care, cause I can afford another ass if I have to. As such, I like inexpensive, used guns.

@Ulric knows this all too well, as my spanish mauser is still hanging out in pieces at his house because it's practically unfirable.

I sold my Remington 11-87 to pay for a move for my new job. Been wanting to downgrade that gun for a while now anyway. The way I saw it, it's an amazing gun but I wanted a cheap pump gun instead. And I can always always pick up a shotgun later.

I figured I could pick up a used 870 or 500 for pretty cheap and have what I needed.

Boy was I wrong.

Used prices on old shotguns are stupid here in the Springs. Anything remotely useful (no 28" barrel) is $350 or more.

I looked toward the cheap new stuff, and found the H&R Pardner Pump Protector (P3).

H&R_Pardner_Pump_Protector_073.JPG

As you can see, it's a Chinese made Remington 870 clone. The differences I can see are in the barrel and receiver shape.

I saw it on sale at Walmart last weekend for 159 dollars. Amazing, but I was shopping for chairs before a camping trip.

I didn't know anything about them at the time, so I was gunshy about the thing because I had never heard of it before.

After doing research for a week, I decided this was the gun. Cheap, I know the system inside and out, and I had a gift card.

But of course, they sold the last one the day I went to buy it. I called over twenty-five shops in town, and NO BODY has this gun in stock.

Best price I could get was $196, shipped, with background check and taxes.  This was from a small, family-run gun shop that had a lot of interesting pieces. I figured I'd give them my business.

This will be a defensive and competition gun, as I plan on getting back into 3-gun very soon.

Am I doing this right?

Needs more Russian pistol (whichever, since they are actually doing real testing), a SP-1 Colt wearing an obscene bullpup conversion.

Then lay out a belt of linked 20X139mm, and a handful of "Stielhandgrenate39" , just because.  Not as if the majority of fuck-tards browsing the article would notice that they had jack and or shit to do with the subject.
