"Pigs" Have A Hard Job

This whole podcast is full of it, but here's an interesting critique from Carl Benjamin (Sargon of Akkad) of the American police system:

https://youtu.be/lwaW2hA2Elg?t=5674

The point he makes is that American cops have a general tone where they are overbearing, which he likens to "an occupying military force".

I am not sure I agree with him that this is a bad thing, but it certainly does highlight a difference in how police act in the USA versus the UK, and elsewhere.

Can't watch the video yet.

But I think I've mentioned before that something like half of US police officers are former military with close to that number serving in Iraq and Afghanistan (or it was not to long ago).

So that combined with better weapons and gear is going to result in more individuals who are bad guys (or perceived as such) achieving room temperature more efficiently.

This can be good or bad but I'm reminded of the fact that previous generations of police beat folks with billy clubs and gear was marketed so cops could "shoot it out" with gangsters, highway bank robbers and protestors.

Tacoma man holds driver at gunpoint after 7-year-old boy hit by car

The perp was allegedly drunk and high on pot. Witnesses jumped in front of the asshole's car to stop him from driving off before a neighbor threw down on him and conducted a citizen's arrest.

I'd have drug him out of the vehicle and pistol whipped him at the very least. Good on Mr. Hines and Mr. and Mrs. Lester for being Johnny-on-the-spot though.

THANKS OBAMA!

Huh, the news media has been covering the sentences he was commuting, were all non violent drug offenders. How did this guy who was in a notorious gang make the cut?

Your tax dollars at work.

Bomb squad called out to San Antonio home after 75 rounds of old ammunition found.

"Residents within a radius of 300 feet around the ammunition were evacuated, he said.

Looking at the date on the box, Balcar said it appeared to be 40 years old and belonged to the previous resident, who was a World War II veteran."

This is the second time old ammunition has been found at the home. Just last week, the bomb squad spent about half an hour disposing of shotgun shells found there.

I was initially skeptical myself since I saw this on one of those "fake news" websites on a friend's Facebook feed. But I was rather flabbergasted when I saw the real news confirming the story.

I mean fuck. I'm in the middle of a move and most of my guns and ammo are locked up at my folks' house in their safe. But even with that, I have 40 rounds of 30-30, a newly acquired box 7.5mm Swiss, 50 rounds of 44 Magnum, 100 rounds of .357 Magnum, 25 rounds of .38 Special, and 400 rounds of .22 long rifle.

And that is essentially a travel load which I have stuffed in an Army surplus ammo can.

I can just imagine the absolute hysteria if the police had to call in the bomb squad to dispose of some of your guys' ammo stashes. I'm sure they'd have to evacuate Kentucky, Indiana and parts of Ohio while the residents of West Virginia would be told to shelter in place if they every found @Meplat 's ammo, gunpowder and moonshining cache.

It's an old murder from 2014 but I just became aware of it because one of my friends wants to buy this house.

For $225,000 you too can buy a 1912 Craftsman in Tacoma's Hilltop where two individuals were brutally murdered and a third badly maimed.

http://q13fox.com/2014/05/27/friends-say-double-homicide-in-tacoma-could-have-been-prevented/

"Later that evening, he went back to he home he shared with his girlfriend and found her with Geissler again.

“He retrieved an ax from the back porch and struck Geissler in the head three times,” the prosecutor’s office said. “Livingston then walked upstairs to the bedroom, beat his girlfriend with a walking stick and choked her until she was unconscious.

“He went down to the basement where a family friend, Denyse Marshall, 60, lived. He hit her in the head with a ‘Shake Weight’ before strangling her with electrical cords."

I have never heard of someone doing a person in with a fucking Shake Weight before.

Clearly we need a law mandating a seven day WAITING period before buying one.

I actually got pulled over today, so I can again confirm that police officers here are remarkably friendly.
