The shitshow gets even more convoluted.

Iran launches ballistic missiles into Eastern Syria against ISIS.

Presumably in retaliation for previous terrorist attacks in Iran.

Also news has just broke that the US has shot down a Syrian warplane over Raqqa that was allegedly bombing US-supported insurgents.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/06/18/middleeast/syrian-warplane-shot-down-coalition/index.html?adkey=bn

A Syrian warplane was shot down over Raqqa by the United States-led coalition after a Syrian regime SU-22 dropped bombs near Syrian Democratic Force, or SDF, fighters, according to a statement by the US-led coalition. The statement said the coalition shot down the Syrian plane in self-defense, after a number of SDF forces, which are backed by the US-led coalition, were wounded in an earlier attack and bombs were dropped near them. The Syrian Armed Forces, meanwhile, said that one of its warplanes was attacked in the Raqqa countryside, "while it was carrying out a combatant mission against ISIS terrorist organization."

What a fucking shitshow.

Jadin wasn't reported to be SDF territory by 'the maps' nor reported to be captured by the SDF according to 'the media', but of course things can change quickly on the frontline. So "friendly fire" like this was fully expected (and I think has happened before). It's just that the US went full babyrage over it this time. The only one claiming that the SDF held Jadin is CJTF-OIR. At the moment even pro-rebel maps are showing the SAA in control of Jadin after they moved into try and rescue the pilot, who is apparently captured by the SDF. Al-Madsar claimed that the SDF was trying to block the SAA from reaching the pilot, but it's Al-Masdar claiming it, so yeah...

Also, interesting thing to note that Jadin is near a road that leads to Deir-Ezzor and it seems like the SAA and SDF were both trying to capture an important crossroad where the road splits to Raqqa and Deir-Ezzor.

CJTF-OIR statement:

And here I was thinking the Russians closed that "de-confliction line" after the US bombed and Tomahawk'd the Syrians. Last time a situation like this happened, Russia was the one screaming over a de-confliction line to stop the US from bombing Syrians defending against ISIS. Why did the US have to immediately shoot down a jet in a situation that's similar except for the fact that the party that was bombed wasn't an official US ally? Are they going to bomb the Turks when they'll inevitably bomb/barrage the SDF again?

Anyway, the statement reads a little funny. The second bombing happened "near SDF fighters south of Tabqah", which is super vague, it doesn't even say it happened in/near Jadin. And it doesn't even state it attacked the SDF forces directly, as it does in the first part of the statement. Does bombing ISIS forces who are fighting against the SDF also count as "dropping bombs near SDF fighters"?

Another thing that I found kinda funny is that they're saying Jadin sits North of an East-West de-confliction area. How does that even work?

Oh well. My opinion at the moment is that the US is just looking for any way/method to hinder the SAA. Blocking the government from approaching Al-Tanf, moving HIMARS into Syria in an area where it would be completely useless against ISIS and now shooting down a jet. What's next, blocking the SAA from breaking the siege of Deir Ezzor?

PKK/YPG/SDF fighter in Reddit said that their "Arab friends" thought the jet was attacking them, but he thinks it wasn't:

Quote

I hope this will be the last time the Americans destroy their airplane when it was a mistake from our Arab friends who believed the regime was attacking them -- but I do not believe the regime was -- and I think this was a big mistake from everyone. A lot of the commanders are angry that all of this happened. Very angry. A lot of things have come now to make this mistake and it was like a child's accident.

The pilot is in SDF custody and is being treated. Reports of him being rescued by the SAA are false.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps said it had launched medium-range missiles at ISIS positions in Deir ez Zor [province]. It is stated that this is the response to the recent terrorist attacks that the terrorists of the IS carried out in Tehran. The launches are made from the missile bases of the Aerospace Forces of the IRGC in the Iranian provinces of Kurdistan and Kermanshah in the west of the country.

Judging by the incoming information, in total six rockets "Zolfagar" and "Qiam" were launched, as I expected. As a minimum, part of the targets were in the Syrian city of Meadin (El Meyadin), which according to some media reports has now become the actual capital of the IS. Sources in the city reported yesterday about missile strikes on the city.
