http://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/22621/the-army-wants-armored-turrets-packing-120mm-mortars-for-its-strykers-and-other-vehicles US Army wants 120 mortars for its Strykers, this time turreted ones, with direct fire capability (sort of like NEMO). It's not exactly new info, but it's a good sign that it's not a dead project.

    Random Nuclear Stuff

I know @LostCosmonaut had a thread about radiation thresholds and others have mentioned Nukemap, but I did run across this which may be of interest during one of my attempts to indulge my obsession with 50s era atomic army silliness (Blame Fallout): Casualty Estimation for Nuclear and Radiological Weapons The focus seems mostly on possible terrorist devices, but it mentions tactical stuff too. It goes without saying it's very NATO centric as well.

Stechkin's Abakan (TKB-0146). https://www.kalashnikov.ru/abakan-stechkina-avtomat-stechkina-tkb-0146/ Bullpup, system of "recoil impulse shifted in time", 2-stage feed system (a year before it was implemented by Nikonov on his ASM), ejection to the front above a trigger grip, non-reciprocating charging handle. 3 firemodes - "2" - 2 round burst (at around 2000 RPM), and "O-A" - combined semi-auto and full auto (pressing trigger intil first "step" will fire weapons in semi-auto, pressing it futher will swtich to full auto fire in 600 RPM).

Processed 85 pounds of chicken (15 birds) into separately packaged bird pieces which are now vacuum sealed and in our freezers. Traded our salmon for a fellow farmers market vendor's poultry. There is something intrinsically wholesome in dealing directly with where your food is grown and your friends who do the growing. And I'm glad we were able to take Otter along to the farm again so she can look and interact with the critters. Sadly no photos since my phone got killed by Bristol Bay and I haven't gotten around to replacing it yet.

BTW - Im not sure DM-13. In green book (Bauman 2006 Moscow) is 220mm/60@ but IMHO it could be overestimated. From the other side - some other polish Autors found in british archves that "unkown" german 120mm KE was able to penetrate 450mm steel from 1km in late 70's... so maybe..

I wonder if it's from seeing that Polish Rosomak variant during exercises. From the market survey.

Land 400 Phase 3: Australian IFV

For background, each of the three Australian Multi-role Combat Brigades are organised as follows: - Brigade HQ - Combat Signals Regiment - Armoured Combat Regiment (1 x Sqn MBT [upgraded via L907-2], 2 x Sqn CRV [L400-2 BoxerCRV]) - Mechanised Infantry Battalion (currently M113AS4: replacement will be L400-3 IFV) - Motorised Infantry Battalion (Bushmaster PMV, to be replaced by L81xx [can’t recall]) - Artillery Regiment (2/3 x Bty of M777A2) - Combat Engineer Regiment - Combat Service Support Battalion As can be seen, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. Towed guns, mix of wheeled & tracked AFV, a sub-unit of tanks for the entire brigade, insufficient organic combat engineering, and differing levels of protection & mobility for each of the infantry battalions. The brigades are almost common/interchangeable by design, but internally, they have no depth for the capabilities offered. The three MCB rotate between three phases of the force generation cycle of “readying” (training, getting new gear, being certified), “ready” (deployable), and “reset” (not rest!).

But muh Blue Wave!!! Polling shows Republican challenger pulling even with anti-Trump Democrat in Solid Blue Oregon Gubernatorial Race http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018/07/25/republican-challenger-pulls-even-with-anti-trump-democrat-in-solid-blue-oregons-governors-race-poll.html I cited the July 25 FoxNews article just for ease, there are other publications that have run similar stories. Per RealClearPolitics and their polling. A Gravis poll has Republican challenger Knute Buehler in a tie with incumbent Democrat governor Kate Brown in Oregon. IN OREGON!!! Another polling group (A Republican one it seems) has the challenger up by a point. http://cloutpolitical.com/poll-or-governor-race-in-statistical-tie-with-gop-challenger-buehler-holding-slight-edge/ IN OREGON!!! The particulars of the Gravis poll are interesting in that 47 percent of likely Oregon voters are LESS likely to support a congressional candidate if it meant that Nancy Pelosi would be Speaker of the House and only 19 percent more likely. In contrast, 44 percent of likely Oregon voters are LESS likely to support a candidate if it meant helping Trump and 43 percent were more likely to support a candidate if it meant helping the President. IN FUCKING OREGON!!! The poll consisted of 770 likely voters, 47 percent of whom voted for Hillary Clinton and only 41 percent who voted for Trump. ... The takeaway? I can't take seriously the notion of a BLUE WAVE sweeping the country if Oregon is polling in favor of a Republican winning the state's gubernatorial race.

It's really funny watching the rolling clusterfuccane of Russian arms procurement, meanwhile the US military is freaking out trying to outdo one-off Russian prototypes because they are terrified of losing their dominance to a country with a military expenditure equivalent to France's, and are being egged on by a greedy defense industry. And the cherry on top is that any Russian with a stake in this wishes they had our problems.
