    A New Triple Crown Winner

A good deal of my youth was spent at horse race tracks. And while that is a separate and long story, I'm happy to finally see a Triple Crown winner. Good job American Pharoah!
  2. Three weekends since the movie has been released and I still haven't seen Solo. And by the lack of comments, I'm guessing the zero fucks even being given about it is rampant here at SH.
  3. So I finally decided to catch up on the Quentin Tarantino movies, broke down, and watched Hateful Eight because it was free on Netflix and I had a day of bachelor time. And I still remain convinced that the man hasn't made a good movie in a decade and a half and has only made three remotely good movies in his life. (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill Vol. 1). Going into the film I had low expectations given the absolute clusterfuck that was Django Unchained and I got fooled for the first half of the movie thinking it wasn't that bad. You had Tarantino's signature community college Intro to American film history homage to Sergio Leone with the music and the LONG establishing shots. And it was creepy seeing the Weinstein name splashed everywhere since this is the first movie of his that I've watched since #metoo but I wasn't going to hold that against the film. And the anachronistic dialogue mother-fucking its way through every racial epithet is what I expect from pasty-white, suburban-raised Tarantino because dropping the N-bomb is what America has told him he needs to do in order to be cool. So that didn't bother me. And there was a strong ensemble cast. I always dig Kurt Russel, particularly when he is able to chew through his lines with his John Wayne impersonation. We had old friends like Tim Roth and Michael Madsen and Bruce Dern show up and Samuel L. Jackson is Samuel L. Jackson. And about an hour and half of witty dialogue and banter went by because that's what you expect from a Tarantino film. Bounty hunters and strangers thrust together into a cabin in a Wyoming blizzard and someone isn't telling the truth. So the movie's pacing is methodical. Very methodical. We get it, it's a Sergio Leone homage. So far. So good. And then Samuel L. Jackson started getting his dick sucked by a naked dude in the snow while laughing maniacally. ... And after that, we got waves of theater blood splashed around. And an extended montage where people got shot. And it was supposed to be funny because the lines were written that way. But instead it was just boring like all the actors realized that they're back in a Tarantino flick and they're covered in theater blood. And hey, wasn't this novel back in 1992 in Reservoir Dogs? Well we're doing it again but in Western duds. And it wasn't fun. And it wasn't novel. And it was three hours long. And there weren't any memorable lines. And I watched Samuel L. Jackson mimicking having his dick sucked by a naked dude in the snow while he laughed maniacally. 95 percent of the trailer is the "good" part of the movie before the dick-sucking and Deathproof redux.

    General news thread

But the Canadians are laughing at America for electing President Trump. LAUGHING!!!
  5. I think Trump regrets every single day choosing Sessions as his AG. Between Sessions recusing himself from the investigations and not vigorously prosecuting the prior Administration and allowing the Justice Department to slow walk every single piece of evidence that Congress is trying to uncover, to the fact that Alabama somehow elected a Democrat Senator to replace him, because the party shot itself in the dick by not picking Brooks OR Strange. Sessions is Trump's version of the sunk-cost fallacy because out of all the other imbeciles he's shit-canned, picking Sessions has actually done demonstrable damage to the Administration and firing him now would be an admission of such. Either that, or it's an elaborate game of 5-dimensional chess...

    Celebrities that are now dead

No. I don't mean celebrating like "Yay, he died". I meant celebrating like the endless sob stories which we are now be treated to by the media because the purse designer or the celebrity chef ended it all. I don't want to get this topic off track though. So I may or may not cobble something together elsewhere. Hopefully the latter.

    Celebrities that are now dead

Not real big on celebrating suicides.
  8. This guy is the most internet-y thing on the internet today... The way he flinches from the chicken every time it moves, sells it for me.
  9. Reading the coverage on the story, the 58-year old Intelligence Committee Staffer Wolfe was engaged in "romantic relationship" with the (then) 22-year old Watkins who slept her way up the journalism food-chain by using Wolfe as an "unnamed source". Despicable on so many levels. Edit: Oh, the guy was a Democrat staffer. This is my shocked face.
  10. Impeach Trump! Trump's a Fascist! Trump says he is likely to support ending federal ban on marijuana ... Trump is re-elected in 49 state landslide victory in 2020
  11. Story isn't centered around an Alt-Hist of the 116-win Seattle Mariners in 2001 defeating the Tino Martinez-led New York Yankees in the ALCS, before going on to take revenge against the Randy Johnson-led Arizona Diamondbacks in the World Series which would have been the only logical reason for a nuclear war. 0/10 Would not wallow in a 16-year playoff drought again.
  12. I guess more important issue of the day is whether the Russkies will be allowed back into the G-7. (G-7+1?) https://www.politico.com/story/2018/06/08/russia-g7-633705 “Now, I love our country. I have been Russia's worst nightmare,” Trump said. “But with that being said, Russia should be in this meeting. Why are we having a meeting without Russia being in the meeting?” Despite paraphrasing the most famous line in Rambo III, I didn't think Ivan had a Top 8 economy no matter how you parsed it. At any rate, it looks like the Eye-Ties are in favor of letting the Russkies back in. Although predictably the Brits and Cannucks are opposed. For some reason Politico interviews Arizona's irrelevant #NeverTrump RINOs along with Ben Sasse.

I used to raise muscovy ducks. A lot of them. And I'd witness this same sort of behavior. It was mainly directed at our cat Tom, who had the run of the farm and wasn't scared of anything. I'd catch his eye as he'd stalk across the duck yard as nonchalantly as a cool black cat could do with 15 or 20 ducks following him. He'd kind of give me a "Whaddaya gonna do?" look.
  15. Dear Canadians @Belesarius etc. Why are you letting CNN get away with #FAKENEWS by robbing you of one of your cultural identity, specifically the Canadian involvement in helping to burn down Washington DC in the War of 1812? https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/06/politics/war-of-1812-donald-trump-justin-trudeau-tariff/index.html According to the sources, Trudeau pressed Trump on how he could justify the tariffs as a "national security" issue. In response, Trump quipped to Trudeau, "Didn't you guys burn down the White House?" referring to the War of 1812. The problem with Trump's comments to Trudeau is that British troops burned down the White House during the War of 1812. Historians note the British attack on Washington was in retaliation for the American attack on York, Ontario, in territory that eventually became Canada, which was then a British colony. When asked if the comment was received as a joke, one source on the call said: "To the degree one can ever take what is said as a joke. The impact on Canada and ultimately on workers in the US won't be a laughing matter."
  16. First boxer Jack Johnson. Now Alice Johnson. I want the President just to continue pardoning and commuting people named Johnson until the media catches on.
  17. I love how this has blown up. The quote I heard from the President is that, yes, he could pardon himself - and here's the important part - but he won't have to. The American Left in their hysteria has already jumped ahead in their fantasy to the stage where Trump has already been indicted and convicted in a court of law, and therefore needing a pardon. Which is hilarious considering there is nothing even remotely criminal this President has engaged in before or after he took the oath of office. In fact, two years of fishing by the Special Prosecutor has uncovered more instances of illegality on the part of the Obama Administration and members of the FBI. And as Sturgeon said, this is an issue of Constitutional debate which has been bandied about for decades or more. And any reading of the Constitution seems pretty clear that it's the House of Representatives which votes to impeach, and a trial to remove the President is held in the Senate. We saw this during the Clinton Administration.
  18. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2018/06/04/gangster-obrez-mosin-nagant-confiscated-by-las-vegas-pd/ The illegal rifle-pistol combination that was turned in appears to be in very rough shape and is an example of a hasty job done on what was probably a legally or stolen 7.62x54r 91/30 Mosin Nagant. The magazinefloor plate is popped out, most likely from inspection of the piece. Notice also that the rear sight is set on the furthest setting, maybe a result of examining the piece instead of any actual intent to use it at that setting (either way, there is no front sight that could co-witness with it). With a capacity of 5 rounds (plus 1) and some wicked recoil to boot, this is probably one of the more uncomfortable firearms out there to fire. But, if this is all a criminal element could come up with, then it probably fits their bill.
  19. June 3, 2018 and the Seattle Mariners are alone in first place in the American League West. Also, they're still winning close, one-run ballgames, requiring come from behind heroics.

    North Korea, you so crazy!

North Korea's top three military officials replaced. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-northkorea-usa-military/north-koreas-top-three-military-officials-replaced-us-official-says-idUSKCN1IZ0XY The U.S. official did not identify the three military officials. Yonhap identified them as defense chief Pak Yong Sik; Ri Myong Su, chief of the Korean People’s Army’s (KPA) general staff; and Kim Jong Gak, director of the KPA’s General Political Bureau. ... Significant?

  22. Only nine months after the fact. I'm sure the casinos and Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Association determined that enough time has gone by that releasing this footage wouldn't harm the bottom line.
  23. I had to read Dowd's column four times in order to discern it wasn't some form of subtle satire. It is a telling admission coming from a Pulitzer Prize winning columnist of America's newspaper of record. And it's something I've run across te and again when listening to liberals describe their favored elected officials. Its not good enough that Obama was President. He was BETTER than us. Hillary Clinton was the smartest woman in the world. They are Messiahs. They are religious figures come to lead their followers to the Promised Land. Counterpose this with Trump supporters. Or even the GOP UNDER Dubya, I don't recall that sort of thing. You read or hear conservatIves saying "Donald Trump -- Just Too Good For Us". It would be laughable on the face of it. And it would be against the whole raison d'être of his schtick. If you listen to his supporters, Trump's appeal is that he says what the Average Joe is thinking. He's just one of the guys. He was hired to do a job.
