  1. Maybe, we have to remind Poland had an heavy IFV in the past : Anders.
    So, if the future field army is articulated in both an heavy and a medium force, it can make sens.
    We have to remind they have a specific problem with their river system. This is why Borsuk is needed.

  2. A French article about the Nexter Katana 155mm shell :

    https://www.forcesoperations.com/lobus-de-precision-katana-sur-trajectoire-pour-un-eventuel-premier-contrat/

    in a nutshell :

    - GNSS guidance ;

    - ITAR free ;

    - 40000 m rang ;

    - modular design :

       - to ease future upgrades ;

       - to ease foreign cooperation ;

    - size compatible with auto loading ;

    - close to find its first customer.

  3. Does anyone knows how heavy is the kind of vehicle they want to use with such a beast.

    I’m very surprised to see they are not using an ASCOD based solution.

    The Sabrah chassis could have been perfect with an MLC50 span.
    Merkava Mk4 is more expensive to maintain and to deploy.

    Furthermore the autoloader holds only 22 rounds of main gun ammunition, which is not sufficient for a modern MBT. As the frontal hull is now fully occupied by the crew (the fourth crew member takes up the space to the left of the driver, i.e. where the hull ammo rack in a Leopard 2 is located), the hull still needs to hold:

    • a rack/container for main gun ammunition
    • secondary ammunition for the coaxial machine gun, the 30 x 103 mm RWS and the normal RWS
    • most likely computer and communication systems
    • an air-conditioning system

    Granted, the EMBT is a technology demonstrator, so they might have ignored that.

    Not exactly.
    I didn’t visit Eurosatory but there is a specific concept here.

    Tanks are regarded as well armoured fire powered platform. But, if you look at tanks as platforms, you can find others opportunities.
    The fourth crewman is a 15 years old concept. The idea is to dismount some components of a tank to manage a fourth siege with mission module for special tasks.

    This way, you can have, for exemple, an ISTAR vehicle based on a tank to patrol in very permissive areas.
    So, 22 rounds is enough for self-protection (and, I’m agree with you, it’s not enough against other tanks).

    The best candidate today for such an option is the Leopard-2. The Leclerc MBT is less easy to adapt (but is no more built.).

    Such concept are very interesting for conflicts such as Irak and Afghanistan.

  5. It’s a little bit more complexe.
    when your maximum range with a given ammo is 40000, your tactical range is 30000, not 40000. And it works.
    So, the 4635 CEP at 40000 is of no interest.
    More : when one knows how precision ammo are working, it’s funny to quote a maximum range CEP.
