  1. More pics of the Redback. Suspension unit. Note the spacer between roadwheels to accommodate the Soucy track. SA cameras. Sadly, this (blast test hull) was displayed without its coat rack fitted. Marketing bumpf: Information on the power pack: The engine for the RMA Redback.
  2. Some marketing bumph on the AS9 variant of the K9 under consideration on Australia.
  3. I was chastened elsewhere on line for correcting commentary that this was a competition for the medium calibre turret, and not a stalking horse for Kongsberg. The Kongsberg implementation likely had a lot of the non-recurring engineering already sorted from the interim purchase. So, for Oshkosh to win with an entirely new (to the US Army) turret, there must’ve been something compelling there.
  4. Not a fan of either, tbh. Speaking of, here’s some more pics. Note the top cover sentry hatches open to the vertical & prevent turret traverse. The overhang to the rear. Some “well proven” suspension components.
  5. Oshkosh wins the 30mm turret for Stryker competition. https://www.defensenews.com/land/2021/06/03/army-chooses-winner-to-build-its-new-stryker-gun-system/?utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=Socialflow+DFN
  6. Lynx also grew a coat rack, apparently.
  7. Inside the troop compartment of the Lynx. Hull is likely RMA3, the refurbished blast test hull, so unlikely to be representative of a production vehicle.
  8. Being “trade show specials”, I’d not look too closely at the details of either, tbh. Separately, do any offerer have their power packs on display? Keen to have a look at the Liebherr design.
  9. First pictures from Land Forces are emerging. Apparently both vehicles are the repaired blast tested trucks, refurbished for the show.
  10. If only that philosophy had been ported across to AJAX!
  11. Likely that the Minister of Defence will announce acceptance of all 25 Block 1 Boxers (13 flat tops, 12 with Lance 1.0 turrets) this week at Land Forces. That’ll be a weight off Rheinmetall’s mind, undoubtedly. With the turreted Boxers arriving around October 2020, seems to have been quite a bit of work to get to this point. Should restore some confidence for their Phase 3 bid.
  12. Yep, on the way to Brisbane for Land Forces next week.
  13. Got a link or similar of the Greek article?
  14. No surprises on AJAX. As they say; “but wait! there’s more! https://twitter.com/ftusa284/status/1397158253692432393?s=21
  15. I did say “rumoured” problems - so, no supporting evidence. From what I’ve heard, climbing overall turret weight is problematic, as is integration of APS. The Lance origins of the Ajax turret is well known, as well as being a factor in GD offering an entirely new turret for their bid in the Australian Land 400-3 program. https://www.thinkdefence.co.uk/british-army-medium-weight-capability/ajax/
  16. Given the rumoured problems with the Lance turret in Australia, and that the AJAX turret started life as a Lance turret, I’d say an uncrewed/remote turret would be more likely. Isn’t there a Kongsberg production line in the UK?
  17. Unless they ditch them between now and the ODIA. Expensive, either way. Rheinmetall could take the opportunity to adjust their offer as well.
  18. Definitely some work to do between the now, the end of the RMA, & up to the offer definition & improvement activity (ODIA). Also work to be done by Rheinmetall as the Elbit BMS was mandated for Land 121, Land 400-2, as well as Land 400-3.
  19. As is, CR3 seems to be more of a “proof of concept” vehicle than even a pre-production prototype. Hopefully to refinement of this new turret goes smoother than WCSP & AJAX. At least the armament itself is mature.
  20. My understanding is that the current 59 M1A1 AIM SA will return to the US as the new tanks are delivered. The inclusions are pretty extensive, to the point of turnkey. Someone dug up some of the pre-work in US disclosures. Zoomed in: The $USD1.685b sticker price is the upper cost for what’s listed on the announcement.
  21. 27 degrees or 27% (15 degrees) gradient? If it’s a 27 degree gradient, that’s actually pretty good. Modern western AFV generally can do 60% (31 degrees), so 35 degrees (70%) is very, very good.
  22. By eyeball, I put the Soucy tracks on the Redback at 510-530mm wide. (Noting that this is 100% deductive reasoning/speculation) I think the hull roof height isn’t given as the in-arm suspension allows for variable ride height (though a notional overall height is given), with minimal hull intrusions. From the looks of it, the under hull protection on the Redback is *very* thick. With 125kW more engine output than the Leopard AS1, at a comparable combat weight, but better suspension, I’d like to see Redback do some proper cross-country work. Likely put the old Leopard AS1 to shame!
