  2. After the Swiss parliament voted to approve the contract signing last Friday, armasuisse officially signed the contract for 36 F-35As on Monday https://www.vbs.admin.ch/content/vbs-internet/en/home.detail.nsb.html/90403.html
  3. You know how some of the more lurid descriptions of the GMC Hummer EV accuse it of being the size and weight of a tank? Well, the US Army actually is buying one off-the-shelf for evaluation https://www.overtdefense.com/2022/09/09/us-army-buying-hummer-ev-for-analysis-and-demonstration/
  4. GDLS UK has announced that it will be providing verbal evidence to the Defence Select Committee on July 20. Also released ahead of the testimony is their written evidence: https://committees.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/37866/html/ At this rate my suspicion is that in short order, this will be the case because nobody sane will want anything to do with British cavalry scout vehicle programs after this.
  5. After all the speculation, the UK is confirming that it will be buying more than 48 F-35Bs* *still doesn't say how many
  6. Yes, that's how the new bustle is implemented.
  7. A bit more on mating a Stinger tube to a Javelin CLU https://www.overtdefense.com/2021/03/19/interview-details-about-raytheons-stinger-javelin-lwclu-integration/
  8. Queensland's cabinet hosting a meeting at Rheinmetall Defence Australia’s Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence on Monday. The state government signed a MoU that day reiterating its support for RM's KF41 bid. Also the Department of Defence says that it has received the three prototypes of each contending IFV as of 13 February https://www.overtdefense.com/2021/02/19/queensland-government-reaffirms-backing-of-rheinmetall-land-400-phrase-3-bid/
  9. I was there for the presentation, Texelis apparently cares a whole deal about strategic maneuverability in the Sahel, so it had to be wheeled. But then the same presentation had some figure about engineer casualties that had a couple of Frenchmen upset at me on Twitter instead of the presenter, so I'm skeptical about their reasoning in general.
  10. What I'm hearing now is that the US Army isn't going/wasn't going to evaluate both MPF candidates at the same time, so BAE Systems has time to get their MPF prototype sorted for shipping https://www.overtdefense.com/2021/02/17/bae-systems-respond-to-mobile-protected-firepower-trial-no-show-reports/
  11. New "To The Next Era" splitter marking on one of the ADTW Phantoms
  12. ROCAF F-16A Block 20 tail number 6672 Unfortunately, this F-16 disappeared today during a nighttime training mission
  13. The sale to Croatia of ex-Israeli F-16s collapsed as the US government would not allow the resale of the aircraft following modifications by the Israelis. https://www.timesofisrael.com/us-blocking-israeli-sale-of-used-f-16s-to-croatia-report/ https://www.reuters.com/article/us-croatia-israel-military-idUSKCN1P42MN Oh and it appears that a USMC F-35B has midaired with a KC-130J over southern California. F-35 pilot ejected, KC-130 belly landed in a field, everyone is mostly fine except for the F-35B. https://news.usni.org/2020/09/29/marine-f-35b-crashes-after-collision-with-kc-130-over-california-all-aircrew-recovered-safely
  14. Well, time to play "do I really care enough to root for anyone believe anyone's claims", Caucasus Edition
  15. https://tass.ru/proisshestviya/9520431 TASS is now reporting that its sources say that friendly fire is a possible cause of the crash. I guess Baza blowing the lid on the MiG-31 blue on blue incident means they can't do total coverups anymore
  16. I suppose you must be charmed enough to have never encountered such personalities at the top of any organizational hierarchies. Or Miltwitter. More than a few of us have been published with proper bylines, covering subject matter more relevant to today than a 62 year old tank. We have been there and done that, the difference is that for the most part we weren't so certain of our own intellectual superiority just because we got published someplace for the first time.

  18. RIP Syd Mead. Right on the doorstep of the new decade too https://boingboing.net/2019/12/30/syd-mead-1933-2019.html
  19. https://www.vedomosti.ru/politics/articles/2019/12/24/819543-su-57 Someone's going to be tasked with cleaning up bits of Su-57 this winter
  20. With the slat and ERA mounted it actually starts looking like the scale model MHI had circa 2014: (also many thanks to whoever it was that ignored the "don't photograph this" sign)
