A group of more than 30 militants involved in the death of three Russian soldiers in the province of Deir ez-Zor was destroyed in Syria, the Defense Ministry said on Monday.
According to the military, at the end of February, three Russian servicemen were returning by car in the daytime after completing the task of organizing the delivery of humanitarian aid to a settlement in Deir ez-Zor province and were ambushed by militant groups.
“After the ensuing battle, the Russian soldiers disappeared without a trace,” the military said.
According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, after receiving information about the disappearance of Russian military personnel, continuous round-the-clock work was conducted to search for and establish their location. In this case, the report says, the interaction was conducted with the Syrian security authorities and through other channels.
The bodies of the dead were delivered to Russia, the report said.
