It's inconvenience for a reason that Russia doesn't employ child soldiers.- 5,212 replies

The Soviet Tank Thread: Transversely Mounted 1000hp Engines

Extremely inconvenient(low roof, weird dismounting) APC with just 7 dismounts and old gimmics of tank chassis(i.e. requires tank transporter and tank repair/evacuation). Highly specialized vehicle. Though troops can be understood - after BMP-1/2(which sometimes can't even stop mortar splinters properly) it gives a whole lot.- 5,212 replies

Kimchi armoured vehicles: K1, K2, K21 and other AFVs from Worse Korea

Is it some form of insanity - to endlessly spam the exact same IFV-based fire support vehicle concept, over and over again, which no one procures? Make a normal medium tank hull with same components ffs - it isn't that expensive. -

Primarily it's about power consumption, though. Engaging all of them continuously is unsustainable for AFV. Emcon is an obvious concern, but a second concern.

United States Military Vehicle General: Guns, G*vins, and Gas Turbines
Ainen replied to Tied's topic in Mechanized Warfare
Impressive that one competitor is literally half the weight of another one. W/o appliqué armor, but still... p.s. better resolution of the MPF itself. Oddly enough, vehicle doesn't look too reach on optics. -
Vehicles of the PLA: Now with refreshing new topic title!

Am I right to understand, that all "roof tiles"(upper front plate, upper wedge, turret side) are covered with ERA(FY-4), but turret front(lower wedge) is some sort of ceramic plate? -
North Korean armor: little Kim's less explosive tools
Ainen replied to SH_MM's topic in Mechanized Warfare
There is a serious chance that under outer sheets there is something more reminiscent of Merkava. It'll explain weird layout nicely. Gun barell is far too thin. Muzzle brake may be oversized to protect relatively weak chassis. Known 122mm 8x8 howitzers(say, chinese one) had their chassis seriously reinforced, doesn't seem to be the case here.- 33 replies

We don't know what they have under this thin sheet cover, though.

1, elefant in the room. This new tank apparently again spots 115mm smoothbore gun(long time no see, 2a20), instead of 125mm one on Song'un-915. New, large ATGMs(152mm?) are probably intended to compensate for the obvious weakness of this gun in AT role. 2, there are old smoke mortars on the turret bustle. New ones are much larger, and the way they're installed literally cries hard kill aps. 3, as far as I can tell - yes, gunner in front of the commander. Forward sight is gunner's(this is supported by periscope next to it), rear one is apparently for commander. 4, somewhat unusually for "eastern" school, but NK clearly sticks to 4-man crew. Gunner is moved to the right. 1st point forced me to check, if it is yet another thoroughly upgraded tank in Popkung-Ho series, but no. Literally everything apart from the gun is different and new.

At least the intention seems to be real(possibly mock-up). 4 Radar panels are readily apparent, and there is something what can be interpreted as UV optics on the rear set of antennas. But... are there 3 or 4 crew members? Optics just don't match 3(strange periscope to the right of the forward sight)
