My uncle (which is pretty much father to me know since i take care of him in his old age) is embarrassed by how many times he has seen that

M1A1 driver's station. If letters were russian and picture was posted somewhere like War is Boring, it would be interesting to see reaction of people.

Mike E reacted to LoooSeR in GLORIOUS T-14 ARMATA PICTURES.
From this interview:
T-15 will get Baikal AU-220 unmanned module with 57 mm autocannon. They also plan a BMPT (possibly on Armata chassis) with 57 mm autocannon, supersonic ATGMs, 16 km max distance against air targets (including UAVs), vehicle will have huge amount of ammunition, remote comtrolled MGs.

The SEP v3 also includes a new armor package (Next Generation Armor Package) and an updated tank management system.

Mike E reacted to Donward in The Martian
Well, with the Council of Elrond scene, I wanted Sean Bean to say "One does not simply".
With the Iron Man reference in the movie, I wanted a 35 second after credits scene in The Martian with Samuel L. Jackson recruiting Matt Damon's character to Shield.

Mike E reacted to Khand-e in Vehicles of the PLA: Now with refreshing new topic title!
To be fair, aside from Sapphire based ceramics (which was mentioned in an interview by the chief designer of the 98/99 family himself, sort of odd he'd do that *shrug*), the Type-99's armor composition is riddled with speculation and secrecy on what it's even made out entirely, how it's layed out and how thick, so I can't really say that's what it 100% relies on for it's armor scheme. Even the 3 steel/2 ceramic/composite sandwich it actually uses was only found out about recently.
One theory I've heard about said layout is that it's actually very difficult to manufacture the particular type of steel it uses past certain thicknesses (Maraging Grade 350), so using 3 thinner with 2 non steel armored layers over 2 thicker and 1 composite layer may have been needed. Don't quote me on that though.

AFAIK it will primarily replace the left over Tu-95MS's, which itself makes it invaluable.

Wouldn't it be very salty due to the condition on Mars? And empty from nutrients.

Information on the new, fully electric, 2E58 gun stabilzer. About time we start hearing about it.

Mike E got a reaction from Glattrohr in Ukrainian armor - Oplot-M, T-64M Bulat and other.
Ukroboronprom says 40 Oplot-M's will be produced total this year, though the number is estimated to be 15. It'll be interesting to see how the 140 Oplot-M plan works out. Who would buy them?

Mike E reacted to Sturgeon in LRS-B Speculation Spergout Thread, AKA FB-23s Plz
LRS-B is an interesting program, because A.) there seems to be even less information about it publicly available than there was for NGB, B.) it could make or break Northrop Grumman for defense contracts, C.) the requirements are rumored to be more conservative than previous bomber programs, relying more heavily on fewer precision bombs, D.) "optionally piloted" is getting thrown around a lot, E.) it's reportedly not intended to replace the B-2, F.) the technology is supposed to be all stuff that was proven out in the F-35 program.
So basically, the Air Force is hinting that their next bomber will be medium-sized, stealthy, and based on technology proven in the F-35 program. Is this the medium bomber revenant? More importantly,

Mike E got a reaction from Mohamed A in The Preliminary T-72ology Thread
The blog post has been edited; http://thesovietarmourblog.blogspot.com/2015/05/t-72-soviet-progeny.html
Most of the changes look to be with the T-72B's armor.

Mike E reacted to Collimatrix in Bash the Pak-Fa thread
For anyone looking to modernize their armed forces, now is the time to buy Russian weapons. The ruble is undervalued and their manufacturers have excess production capacity and inventory of the current-gen stuff as they look to make room for the next-gen equipment.

Yeah but the picture is pretty distinctive. The canards on the front give it away.

Mike E reacted to LoooSeR in Tank Layout
As i said in the Yemen thread, old ATGMs is not as much of a problem as APFSDS rounds. Turret layout create a problem, when hull down position of Abrams against tanks is undermined by turret design itself. Modern ATGMs will also go through it. Later version of M1 should do something with that.

~60-80 mm armor-grade steel base and MERA modules on top of it - this is a composition of the roof armor.

Mike E reacted to Mohamed A in Saudi Arabia to begin operations in Yemen
My USMC friend said that they once found an IED hidden in a street block.
The IED composed of 4 155mm artillery shells (each one ~ 55kg). Managed to deactivate it though thankfully.
