Iran’s civil and military organizations were equipped with eight new military and non-military helicopters, two of which have been manufactured in Iran and fully comply with all international and national aviation standards.

The helicopters, either manufactured or overhauled by Iran Helicopter Support and Renewal Company (IHSRC), were unveiled on Tuesday at a ceremony attended by Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan

Five “Bell 412-EP” rescue helicopters were delivered to Iran’s Red Crescent Society (IRCS) at the event.

Additionally, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force received a “Mill 171” helicopter overhauled by IHRC for the first time.

The IRGC Ground Force will also take delivery of a “Bell 206” and a “Bell 214” chopper, both manufactured in Iran, as soon as their flight tests are over.

Iran has made great achievements in aviation industry in recent years. As well as attaining self-sufficiency in the overhaul and maintenance of helicopters inside the country, Iran has been successful in manufacturing different types of choppers.

More Rooivalk 2 news - one of the interesting details about the original Rooivalk development project is that a lot of the design work was done by engineering postgrads for their projects. The postgrads weren't told this, of course. They simply worked some aspect of the thing (uniaxial stresses in aerodynamic composite structures or whatever) and the results got fed into the design by the core team ('oh, so the rotor blades need a layup of such-and-such configuration')

Come 2016 and engineering postgrads are suddenly getting helicopter-related projects again. Lord knows if these dots all join up, but the timing is interesting.
