The force intends to simultaneously procure both a Neues Kampfflugzeug (new combat aircraft: NKF) and a Bodengestützte Luftverteidigungsystem (Bodluv), a medium-range air and missile defence (AMD) system. Belesarius
Article on using the SM-6 with the new block of SuperBug with CFTs. We've had discussions on this on the Dicksword and on TS before that. It's an interesting idea that has a lot of merit. https://nationalinterest.org/blog/buzz/ultimate-weapon-navy-super-hornets-armed-sm-6-missiles-34737?fbclid=IwAR2VH4MYdEVFlKsx3XNxuDvAxt63BT9XlgHsRajWNWL3p9KgN2LEM9L8CjM
OnlySlightlyCrazy
"In the past few years, the threat scope has changed dramatically, as Soviet operations have expanded, and the Chinese bomber force has been modernized with the introduction of the Badger H-6K." Lel. "A Super Hornet with three external fuel tanks and a full air intercept load of 6 AIM-120D has rather limited effective combat radius of around 400 miles." If only there was a long-ranged multirole fighter in production which hadn't lost out to the F-16. Makes one wonder. "allow for the Super Hornet to widen the engagement range of a carrier strike group in the BMD role." I'm unsure if that's anywhere near as feasible as you think it is. Overall, I'm in favor. Give us the turbo-dick version of the AIM-120, but put it on your real fighters instead.
Ramlaen
Has there been an official statement on the range of Block III Super Hornets with the conformal tanks? PAC-3 or SM-2 Block IIIC would be a more realistic option than an SM-6.
LoooSeR
https://imp-navigator.livejournal.com/772450.html Quote Algeria joined the growing club of countries with Chinese-made drones in service. They preferred the products of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) and acquired number of the CH-4 UAV , already well-proven in the service in Iraq. They are also in service with Saudi Arabia and possibly the UAE. In addition to CH-4, Algerians also bought CH-3 UAVs from the CASC, which are also used Pakistan (localized there under the name Burraq), Myanmar, Nigeria, Zambia. LoooSeR
Quote The web site “Mediazone” published a material by Daria Guskova “Playing with planes". "Team 29" spoke about the case of the convicted for treason because of comments at the aviation forum" about the court’s conviction of an employee of the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aviation Plant (KnAAZ, a branch of PJSC Sukhoi Company) Roman Dmitriev, in his time famous for his “leak” through Internet resources (first of all, www.airforce.ru) confidential information about the state of production programs and the fleet of Su-30, Su-35 and T-50 (Su-57) fighters. /.../ On October 31, 2017, the Khabarovsk Territory UFSB spokesman told Rossiyskaya Gazeta about the verdict that was passed by the Khabarovsk Regional Court to a 26-year-old employee of one of the defense enterprises in the region under Article 275 of the Criminal Code. The report of the special service, in which neither the date of the court session nor the name of the convicted person was indicated, was the only official source of information about the case, however, Team 29 found out that it was an aircraft factory technologist from Komsomolsk-on-Amur Roman Dmitriev who received 4.5 years in prison for correspondence with an Israeli citizen on the forum of military aviation enthusiasts. /.../ Six months later, a case was filed against the technologist regarding the disclosure of state secrets using his official position (Article 283 of the Criminal Code). It was associated with three of the 230 comments that Dmitriev under the nickname Azochen Wei left on the airforce.ru forum in topics dedicated to the aircraft that the KnAAZ produces. The technologist wrote, in particular, about the export of products of the plant, indicating the numbers of the aircraft, their reg. numbers and the countries to which the delivery is planned. Secret information in the comments found only from the second time. The first examination of Dmitriev's messages was carried out by experts of the 11th Army of the Air Force and Air Defense, who decided that the comments on the forum did not contain state secrets. Re-examination was done by the employees of the regime department of KNAAAZ, who did not agree with the conclusions of their colleagues. Dmitriev had the third - the lowest - the level of access to the state secret. “In order to explain how Dmitriev received secret documents, they opened another case against another employee of the plant - engineer Laiter A.N., who shared secret documents in the corporate network <...> There is a possibility that the Filer case was later discontinued or did not reach court ", - writes" Team 29 ". /.../ Dmitriyev was offered to admit his guilt, promising him in return a suspended sentence. When the technologist agreed and signed all the necessary documents, his case was retrained for treason (article 275 of the Criminal Code). After that, a “representative of foreign intelligence” appeared in the case, to whom, according to the investigators, the plant employee was transferring secret information. We are talking about a 68-year-old former Soviet pilot Mikhail Zaygere, who has been living in Israel for 22 years. Dmitriev met Zaiger on the forum of military history lovers, where the latter was known under the nickname Ben-Itzhak; several times they were contacted and emailed. Dmitriev, according to the investigators, immediately realized that Zeiger was an agent for the Mossad. In this, he was helped by the knowledge gained from “popularly viewed feature films, literature and thematic sites that he reviewed on foreign countries and their representatives carrying out intelligence activities in the area of the latest secret military developments.” /.../ The main method of work of the Mossad agent Zeiger is trolling on the Internet. The investigation believes that he deliberately insulted opponents and praised Israeli military equipment in order to provoke other visitors of the forum to enter into discussion with him and to give out secret information in the polemic. According to the case file, referred to by “Team 29”, the secret witness, who calls himself a veteran of intelligence, confirmed that the correspondence of Dmitriev and Zeiger at the forum looks like a “typical recruitment procedure”. According to him, intelligence officers often search for people with access to a state secret on specialized Internet sites. Dmitriev sent secret information to Zeiger at habibidear@gmail.com, which, according to a certificate from the Counterintelligence Department of the first FSB department, "is used by the Israeli special services." However, then, according to the investigation, the technologist realized that no one was going to pay for the information to him, and posted it on the forum in order to find new buyers. /.../ “Team 29” wrote to habibidear@gmail.com. In the reply letter, the mailbox owner acknowledged that he had known Dmitriev long ago and had received several letters from him. But he insists that there was “nothing in them that could have interested at least some intelligence in the world.” He denies any connection with the Mossad and claims that he is not interested in intelligence officers. “I can, in principle, apply [to the Mossad] and for jokes, maybe even get a certificate stating that I am not their employee, neither paid nor helping them on a voluntary basis - but who will belive this paper in the FSB?" "About Roman I have the warmest, the best opinions. <...> His process is another big bastard of the FSB officers, he is just a victim of spy craze <...>. I am very sorry that I became the indirect culprit for his misadventures. If i would have known - I wouldn’t correspond with him at all, except on the forums ... ”- quoted by “Team 29” Zeiger’s letter. The Dmitriev case was investigated "within the law," claims defender Alexey Livitsky. The lawyer was hired by the legal department of the plant; he did not speak with the client alone, did not visit the technologist in the SIZO, and did not attend the pronouncement of the sentence. Levitsky refused to communicate with “Team 29”, citing a non-disclosure subscription, investigative secrets, as well as lawyer and state secrets. Now Dmitriev is serving a sentence in IK-7 in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, his sentence expires in December 2021. This case would have been very funny if it wasn't so stupid and broke a human life. Krieger22
https://www.politico.com/story/2019/01/09/defense-patrick-shanahan-boeing-pentagon-1064203 Shanahan's already managed to attract scrutiny for perceived bias Quote In high-level Pentagon meetings, Shanahan has heavily criticized Lockheed Martin’s handling of the production of the F-35 fighter jet, which is expected to cost more than $1 trillion over the life of the program, according to one of the two sources, a former senior Defense Department official who was present. Shanahan, this official said, called the plane “f---ed up” and argued that Lockheed — which edged out Boeing to win the competition to build the plane in October 2001 — “doesn’t know how to run a program.” “If it had gone to Boeing, it would be done much better,” Shanahan said, according to the former official . As the Pentagon's No. 2, Shanahan repeatedly "dumped" on the F-35 in meetings, calling the program "unsustainable," and slammed Lockheed Martin's CEO, Marillyn Hewson, according to the second source, a former Trump administration official. "'The cost, the out-years, it's just too expensive, we're not gonna be able to sustain it,'" this person said, quoting Shanahan.
