Looks like the autoloader has been attached as a turret bustle.

That, or the bustle contains extra ammunition (or, more likely, the XM654 supercharged propellant cases). The previous cutaways we got suggest there are two different autoloader configurations considered from the M109A8 - a vertical one (more comparable to the one used on the Crusader) and a horizontal carousel (Meggitt-style).

Who knows, maybe the current configuration uses a blend of the two, with primary (vertical) storage in the turret itself and extra charges (horizontal) and carousel in the bustle?

The development of high-precision tactical missile systems - "VTRK" - was started by the Ministry of Defense.

These missiles have already received the informal name "pocket Iskander." Launchers for compact VTRK will be placed on armored vehicles "Tiger" or "Typhoon." Despite their diminutiveness, the complexes should hit any targets - equipment, fortifications, as well as HQs. They are designed to deliver high-precision strikes in the rear of a potential enemy at a depth of up to 100 km.

/.../

Unlike the Iskander, the VTRK missiles will not be ballistic. If necessary, the operator or electronics will be able to retarget it in flight - this will be possible thanks to a bilateral electro-optical system for transmitting images and information.

/.../

High-precision complexes will seriously help ground units, according to military expert Viktor Murakhovsky.

“Divisions and brigades should have their own weapons capable of delivering high-precision strikes to the depth of the entire tactical zone,” he noted. "- Currently they don't have this ability. The Iskander M complexes are operational level and are not subject to division commanders. The Smerch MRLS is a long-range, but it does not have powerful high-precision missiles. There are only guided submunitions."

For a new missile system MoD will need to develop a whole line of ammunition. There will be high-explosive, cluster, penetrating ammunition, as well as intended for buried targets, such as bunkers, the expert said.

/.../

Tul'pan making funny sounds:

What an amazing piece of technology... If loaded with 3F5 guided shells, it is basically a ground based GBU-39 thrower... I think it was a very wise decision to return the 2S4 to service recently.

Tyulpan would be an incredibly useful weapon in syria.

Why "would be"? It appears that it was used several times.
