Yes that is the Vena, but it was reported that an improved version was built, and that the prototype is called Lotus.

"Rheinmetall Denel Munition (RDM) has completed the qualification of its extended-range 155 mm M2005 Velocity Enhanced Artillery Projectile (V-LAP) for an international client, the South African company announced on 9 March. Full-scale production is under way and the first production batch has been delivered to the client.

The V-LAP has now been qualified and is in production. (Rheinmetall Denel Munition)

RDM said the V-LAP achieved a range of 57 km from a 155 mm/52 calibre barrel, which translates to a standardised range of 54 km when adjusted for conditions at sea level."

Further planned upgrades for the M109A7?

We are seeking a potential contractor who is capable of providing a proposed solution that demonstrates how the new cannon technology, as provided by the Government, will be integrated onto a current vehicle in both design and production phases using Government Furnished Information (TDP). Any additional information or hardware needed to provide a working Self Propelled Howitzer to the US Government will need to be identified and provided by the contractor.
The potential contractor will need to support Government qualification testing, produce, and field the capability.
The ERCA is expected to be a two phase program. Phase 1, will require the contractor to develop cab modification for the integration of the following Government furnished items into the M109A7 platform: XM907 cannon, XM208 Gun mount with the associated gun drive systems, rammer, and software upgrade (both functional and diagnostic).
Following the successful completion of Phase 1, Phase 2 will require the contractor to develop cab modification for the integration of the Government furnished autoloader into the M109A7.

That's good, the M109 needs a serious overhaul and the M109A7 was outdated before the first unit was even produced.

 

In other news, Elbit was selected today to build Israel's new artillery, which according to past releases, should begin early firing trials in May this year, and in worst case scenario would be delayed by another year if unexpected problems occur. First operational unit ready within 5 years from January 2017, with the project running in total for 15-20 years at a cost of 1.5 billion USD for approximately 300 units. 

Plans for the vehicle itself, detailed requirements, (leaked photos  ), and any other important pieces of information, were not yet given. Got my fingers crossed!
