Fuck John "I'm with ISIS". It is probably one of rare times when a terrible disease killed a human and no good in this world was hurt.

Wow, so he sold POWs out and took aid and comfort from the enemy. You can see it for yourself, the Ken Burns Vietnam War doc has him allowing North Vietnam to use him in a propaganda video, classic aid, and comfort.  And of course the Media is spinning all the disdain for McCain being Trump's fault, when McCain disdain predates Trump for years, just like it did for the Media.

Nah, lots of people were disgusted with  McCain for how he dealt with MIA family members. They guy was a shitbird.

There is a CSPAN vid of him being a petulant child when dealing with a MIA/POW rep.

Nov. 29, 1989, McCain and news coverage of his involvement in the Keating Five.

https://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/news/mccain-the-most-reprehensible-of-the-keating-five-6431838

You're John McCain, a fallen hero who wanted to become president so desperately that you sold yourself to Charlie Keating, the wealthy con man who bears such an incredible resemblance to The Joker.

Obviously, Keating thought you could make it to the White House, too.
He poured $112,000 into your political campaigns. He became your friend. He threw fund raisers in your honor. He even made a sweet shopping-center investment deal for your wife, Cindy. Your father-in-law, Jim Hensley, was cut in on the deal, too.

...

No one forgets that Glenn was the first American astronaut to orbit the Earth. You won't let anyone forget that you were a prisoner of war. But you have played that tune too long. By now your constant reminders about your war record make you seem like a modern version of Arthur Miller's tragic failure Willy Loman.

Clearly, both you and Glenn sold your fame for Charles Keating's money.

...

You insist that an accounting firm Keating hired told you Lincoln was sound. Alan Greenspan, who Keating also hired, wrote a report saying it was sound. Why shouldn't you believe the people Keating hired? You were, after all, fellow employees.

The Pentagon has cut aid to Pakistan over militant ties

Quote

The so-called Coalition Support Funds were part of a broader suspension in aid to Pakistan announced by President Donald Trump at the start of the year, when he accused Pakistan of rewarding past assistance with “nothing but lies & deceit.”

The Trump administration says Islamabad is granting safe haven to insurgents who are waging a 17-year-old war in neighboring Afghanistan, a charge Pakistan denies.

But U.S. officials had held out the possibility that Pakistan could win back that support if it changed its behavior.

U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, in particular, had an opportunity to authorize $300 million in CSF funds through this summer - if he saw concrete Pakistani actions to go after insurgents. Mattis chose not to, a U.S. official told Reuters.

“Due to a lack of Pakistani decisive actions in support of the South Asia Strategy the remaining $300 (million) was reprogrammed,” Pentagon spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Kone Faulkner said.

Faulkner said the Pentagon aimed to spend the $300 million on “other urgent priorities” if approved by Congress. He said another $500 million in CSF was stripped by Congress from Pakistan earlier this year, to bring the total withheld to $800 million.

The disclosure came ahead of an expected visit by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the top U.S. military officer, General Joseph Dunford, to Islamabad. Mattis told reporters on Tuesday that combating militants would be a “primary part of the discussion.”

Old crusty, New York Post columnist... we are not so different, you and I.

NYC should stop coddling young white bros on bikes

https://nypost.com/2018/09/01/nyc-should-stop-coddling-young-white-bros-on-bikes/

Cycling isn’t just a guy thing — it’s a white guy thing. Despite lack of data, anyone can see that in a city that’s 55 percent nonwhite, black, Latin and Asian faces on wheels are relatively scarce. (The exception is hard-working food delivery people, for whom access to bike lanes makes their backbreaking jobs somewhat less risky while ensuring that more affluent citizens won’t have to wait too long to get their General Tso’s chicken.)

It isn’t just a white guy thing — it’s a young white guy thing. Neither the DOT nor any major biking organization could provide data on cycling use by age. But another scroll through those 185 Citi Bike trips turned up only 29 uses by riders aged over 45.

It’s also an able-bodied young white guys’ thing. Many cyclists look more suited to running the New York Marathon than to merely getting from Point A to Point B.

Meanwhile, subway riders with every imaginable disability brave jammed platforms, stairs and trains. Legless men hop from car to car.

Now, it isn’t inherently sexist, racist, ageist or ableist that cycling is most popular with athletic, younger white males. What’s sexist, racist, ageist and ableist is that the wishes of so narrow a slice of the populace are institutionally favored over those of all others.

@Oedipus Wreckx-n-Effect  Y DO YOU H8 POOR, LEGLESS minorities forced 2 EWES SUBWAY???!?!???

This part in particular is amazing.

As someone who's ran a road marathon (26.2 miles) AND who rides bikes, I can tell you that one is significantly harder than the other (aka, commuting on a bike is easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy. Especially when powered by cis-white-male-power). Also, did you just assume their athletic choices?

The best part about this? It's a blatant rip from another article that was out of the UK a few years back

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/davehillblog/2015/oct/12/why-are-london-cyclists-so-white-male-and-middle-class

Why are London cyclists so white, male and middle-class?

A fascinating study of why some Londoners cycle and others don’t illuminates cultural obstacles Boris Johnson’s cycling plans must overcome

It's curious since this is one of the first articles that I've ever read complaining about cyclists from a cis-white-male privilege perspective (I had not seen the YUKGuardian article) Out in Seattle, bicyclists and bike lanes generally follow the "War on Cars" narrative that evil conservatives are destroying the planet by commuting to work, and aren't the bicyclists so pure. It's a classic Left vs Right narrative.

So what caught my eye was that this column was more of a Left eating the Left, with each special interest group trading jabs at each other.

I'm so confused now. I dislikes cyclists for many reasons, but none of the reasons listed there. In fact, I wholeheartedly disagree with all of their complaints about cyclists.

So, the takeaway from this is to look at activities that young (20-30s) cis white men disproportionally engage in, then make up reasons as to why it's oppressing to the intersectional spectrum.

Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation issued Google a warning about the inadmissibility of interference in elections

The Russian Prosecutor General's Office reported that Google was issued warnings in connection with the inadmissibility of interference in elections in the territory of Russia.

This was reported by the Deputy Head of the Department for Supervision over the Execution of Laws on Federal Security of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Alexei Zhafyarov. He added that the agency informed Roskomnadzor about possible violations of the law by the company.

/.../

In addition to the Russian Prosecutor General's Office, the Russian Central Election Commission also accused Google of disseminating through its search engine calls for participation in unauthorized actions.

In Roskomnadzor, in turn, said that the Google-owned service YouTube on election day is acting "as a link in the propaganda of antisocial behavior."

In Libyan Tripoli, a new round of battles between feuding militias, and this time every participant of fighting seems to formally support the Government of National Accord, but this does not prevent them from fighting each other from time to time. This time, the two main opposing sides are the so-called 7th Infantry Brigade, which is a militia from the city of Tarhuna located to the southeast of the capital and one of the largest metropolitan militia - the Tripoli revolutionary brigades.
