Where is the slop in the dimensions? If the hull itself is a little longer or shorter, does it effect where the motor/transmission mounts?

To use a poor automotive analogy, you can have a Ford 390 and C6 transmission with gobs of room in a F100 but have to shoehorn it into a 1967 Mustang but they both work.

I'm imagining the artisanal tank workers taking the motor and tranny, sticking it in the tank and mounting it where it fits.

Different hull dimensions could fairly easily change the location of the final drives, since those need to pierce the hull.
