Donward
Tropical Storm Nate is threatening the Gulf Coast and could strengthen to hurricane force if it reads any blogs extolling the virtues of 7.62 or 6.5/6.8 GERPSCHWERRS or if anyone dare expresses the opinion that Millennials have it easier compared to previous generations. LostCosmonaut
Ophelia formed in the east Atlantic today. Although SSTs are marginal, colder than normal upper atmospheric temperatures are allowing deep convection to develop, and it is expected to become the 10th consecutive hurricane of the 2017 season. Interestingly, a few of the model runs I've seen have it keeping a warm core surprisingly far east.

LostCosmonaut
This is your friendly reminder that hurricane season 2018 is coming @Belesarius. edit: Still showing it; GFS, UKMET, and CMC all support it going warm-core at some point. Probably subtropical: Belesarius
Xlucine
Europe has had a weather bomb! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-43221384 Siberian air, so putin must be behind it. I'm meant to get several inches of snow (possibly with freezing rain), which would be a novel experience - the south coast rarely gets snow that settles
Sgt.Squarehead
Plenty on the ground here in the Midlands, the wind's picking up now and more's settling.....I feel a snow-kite day coming on! PS - I'm actually slightly surprised we haven't seen at least some of the UK media attempting to blame Putin for the weather.....I guess they realise even the red-top readers aren't (quite) dumb enough to buy that one yet. LostCosmonaut
The top story on weather.com right now is the developing noreaster. The second story is "Northeast storm forecast, what could go wrong?" Translation: we have no idea what the fuck, don't blame us when NYC gets 2 feet of snow (I'm hoping they underestimated the snowfall totals and the Adirondacks and/or Southern Vermont get multiple feet of accumulation)
LostCosmonaut
Strong storm near South America. Also, the Northeast US is predicted to get its 4th noreaster this month next week (after a bunch of places got 2+ feet today), with possible model support for a 5th. SergeantMatt
I just hope the next one doesn't have high winds, I don't usually lose power from any amount of snowfall but the wind knocks trees down onto power lines every time. LostCosmonaut
The next one is supposed to only get down to about 990 mb, so it shouldn't be too bad, I'm mainly interested in it as a snowmaker for the Adirondacks and Southern Vermont. Although forecasts for winter storms are notoriously shit so

Why not just wait a decade to use them? People would have mostly forgotten by then anyway. Not that it matters. Soon we will see the rally-cries for more and more ethnic-sounding names. I for one am holding out for Tropical Storm Jamal.
