I can't confirm this but anything above x12 would come to be a surprise. Russia doesn't have the experience in thermal imagers as say Germany, France or the U.S.

That's very true Mike. However, some of the figures floating around are still somewhat bizzare. The same sources making claims about 12x zoom also make the claim that the T-14's detection range for tank sized targets is 5000m in daytime conditions, and 3500m at night using IR optics (This figure is actually something I've come across repeatedly from multiple sources). However, after doing some digging I found out that these are the same figures given for the Sosna-U gunners sight, used on the T-72B3 and a few other vehicles. AFAIK the T-14 is supposed to be using new optics designed by Kazan:

So why would would Russian design firms go to the trouble of designing optics that don't exceed the characteristics of the ones they already have in service? *sigh* I wish somebody would leak the specs for these things already. <_<

OPSEC isn't much of a thing anymore? I mean, I remember back in the 90s when people had to risk getting shot to get pictures of the newest Russian tanks, and knowing the capabilities of the gun didn't happen until you captured one.  We're really spoiled for intelligence on the Armata.

It isn't just the thickness of the armor.  Look at these two pictures that were posted earlier:

Now compare that to this picture of a Challenger 1 suspension module:

Or the suspension modules on the Arjun:

Those are just hydraulic shock absorbers as on the T-72 :

Yes, they are shock absorbers and the actual torsion bars are underneath.  This is easy to tell; not all the road wheel stations have them.  But they have to be mounted to something rigid, and the hull side composite armor is not rigid enough.  They also show the thickness of the hull side composite armor because of the cutout to house them.
