I see the Russkies are attempting to counter the EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle from the documentary "Stripes". But as typical the Soviet military philosophy, they opt for quantity over quality and are content to spam waves of inferior travel trailers in an attempt to overwhelm NATO's high tech motor homes.

Article about new series of military vehicles in Russian army and a lot of about Armata. Google translations with some edits.

    .......

    The system of armored vehicles and military wheeled vehicles relies on a unified platforms, class is determined by their weight: heavy, medium and light. A single, unified platform offers maximum unification of the chassis, modules, assemblies, parts, interfaces within the same category of vehicle class. Moreover, unification is provided and between different unified platforms. Such unification logically led to the need for a platforms, built on the principle of "digital electronic vehicle with an open architecture."

    For the first time in the history of the domestic tank production of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Defense in cooperation with the industry in 2010-2011. simultaneously launched development activities (R&D) in key areas of armored vehicles to meet new requirements: a unified heay tracked platform "Armata", unified middle tracked platform "Kurganets-25", unified wheeled platform "Boomerang", unified platform for action in Arctic region "Arctic".

....

    Ural Design Bureau of Transport Machinery (UKBTM) creates a family of AFVs on "Armata" platform, Chief Designer - Andrey Leonidovich Terlikov.

    Of particular interest to the Russian Defense Ministry is a pair of "main tank - a heavy infantry fighting vehicles." Presence in the order of battle of this vehicles allows to implement new tactics to meet the most modern techniques of warfare. In particular, heavy infantry fighting vehicles are capable of operating in a single armored battle array along with tanks, suppress and breakthrough a strong defense with high level of antitank capabilities.

    Heavy BMP is on par with tanks and able to overcome areas of concentrated artillery fire with the minimum costs. They can operate at a minimum distance from the first line of artillery support barrage and even "under the umbrella" of frinedly artillery shells. This greatly reduces the possibility of the enemy to counter the attacking troops with new machines. Dismounting infantry can be done at a minimum distance from the defending enemy, almost on his head, as opposed to older BMP models, where infantry dismounting was happening at same distance as the transition to the attack.

    The main tank and heavy infantry fighting vehicles have a high tactical maneuverability on the battlefield, because such opportunities are determined not only and not as much as the technical parameters of mobility as the ability to act under fire, to overcome natural and artificial obstacles, ability to suppress enemy firepowe with direct fire. The appearance of the main tank and heavy infantry fighting vehicles on a unified platform allows to realize the concept of "heavy" brigades, organizational and staff structure of which is designed for action against technologically advanced enemy, having a high number of antitank weapons, armored vehicles and artillery.

    However, the use of "heavy" brigades against illegal armed groups equipped with light antitank weapons (RPGs), allow to minimize the use of infantry in dangerous places, giving them an umbrella of powerful armor and active protection system.

     One of the key features in the design of the tank "Armata" and the family as a whole is first in the practice of world tank building implementation "digital electronic unit" architecture  The key here is the principle of networking and open architecture. Its meaning lies in the fact that the main element of the electronic unit is a digital information exchange network, which covers all units, components, systems and subsystems. The network provides a standard interface to connect "subscribers". Subscribers are electronic components (microcontroller and microprocessor-based electronic control systems) included (embedded) into functional components, assemblies, systems and subsystems.

     It is crucial that the operation of the digital network in happening in real time and the information is given to all sensors in the network, including commands for all drives and actuators, as well as information on the status of all controls. In other words, the network has in digital form all the necessary information and comands for monitoring and to control tank.

img16305.jpg

      As a result, on-board digital network forms a common information space that brings together the various subsystems of the vehicle and ensures the implementation of a large number of interrelated and interdependent functions, including those running simultaneously. Thus, a single integrated machine control system as a whole: an integrated on-board information and control system (In russian it is called BIUS, i will call that system with this acronym).

     The principles of standardization of functional division and interoperability (compatibility) of BUIS components provide multilevel hierarchical structuring functions and means that each subsystem - the "subscriber" of digital network - must have not only a standard digital interface at the physical level, but also a clear standardized protocol for commands and data sharing. A direct consequence of the principle of interoperability is the ability to change combat and functional modules for armored vehicles based on standardized platforms.

      Multifunctional controls and displays for the crew members provide human-machine interface. Many diverse controls and display characteristic of the previous generation of armored vehicles, now replaced with the multifunction flexibly programmable monitors. It is possible to solve the problem of centralized remote control of a large number of heterogeneous systems, systems and devices by a single operator (crew member), simplify the information and control field, increased ergonomics of tankers work. The open architecture of the digital electronic unit network allows painless and cost-effectively upgrade of individual components and systems of the "Armata" platform as new and better parts appear.

     At a meeting in Sochi May 13, 2015, on the development of the Armed Forces, Russian President Vladimir Putin said: "Another issue - the creation of new and modernization of existing weapons and equipment of the Land Forces. Some of this technology was first shown at the parade in honor of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Fatherland War. The performance characteristics of this new technique significantly superior to their foreign counterparts, and overall it deserves a fairly high ratings between military experts. It is necessary as soon as possible to complete all tests and move to mass production"

     To make full use of all the possibilities of the "Armata"-based AFVs, an understanding of not only of technology itself, but also the tactics of its application is required. For the full mastery of "Armata" requires at least one, and preferably two half-yearly cycle of combat training that can only be realized with the professional crew. For trained personnel "Armata" provides the possibility of implementing a far greater volume of tactics than previous models.

Loooser I have a few questions for you (sorry in advance :/);

- Do you have any sources on the Vacuum series of APFSDS? I used to know two, both of which seemingly have been deleted.

and...

- What is the thin sheet above the glacis for? I have a quick (ah, my excuses) picture;

I suspect it is related to the internal armor layout, but would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks :)

By contributing, you mean they will make suggestons that will be ignored and any stats they give will be castrated for the undeadble M1a2 crowd, and castrated twice for the Britbong lobby

and it will still be called OP

That's basically confirmed, but why go to such a great length over just the tank model? It makes sense that a few features and specifications are transferred.

According to the UVG/AW collab site Tankopedia, the T-90A with Relikt is invulnerable to M829A3 at a range of 1.2 km. Not related to Armata, but still interesting.

This is the thing;

The US doesn't have their hands on Relikt, they might not even know the exact layout of it. As such, it is dubious to claim it can *defeat something it was never tested against*. The only feasible way of defeating Relikt is to use multiple tips, which are sacrificed during the process of defeating the ERA. Problem with this is that mass (and hence penetration) will be lost in the process.

T-14 doesn't use Relikt, it either uses an improved version of it, or something completely different.

With 7 gears, a high power-to-weight ratio, lot of torque, and a low ground pressure, cross-country speed should be at least 55 km/h. I can't tell you how fast it can accelerate, but I can tell you that it will be faster than anything in service right now.

T-14 might become unmanned eventually, but it is a long way off.
