So, it's not like this is news, but that price really kind of drives home how obsolete the .30-30 lever gun is. And, before @Donward chimes in about iron sights, let's remember that halfway decent red dot sights (that are tougher and more consistent than the irons on a lot of lever guns!) are available for as low as $25 these days. Here's Ruger's promo video for those not familiar with the x39 Ranch: The more interesting thing to me is that Ruger is smart by offering this as compatible with mini-30 magazines rather than yet another one-off proprietary mag. Also the barrel being threaded for a silencer which is nice. But hey, Ruger makes good guns which is why my EDC is a Ruger. ... Also somebody doesn't understand the technical term of "obsolete" or else is trying to get my GTO.

Donward
Just now, Sturgeon said: "You are using a word according to definition number three in the dictionary. I am using definition number one. That means you are a moron or a troll, hurr durr." I'm actually coming at it from my sojourn in the real estate appraising world. There are tens of millions of 30-30 lever actions out there in circulation and - jokes about white tail needing .338 Winmag as minimum aside - the last time I checked 30-30 will turn a deer or a burglar into wormfood just fine. ... ... Or WILL IT???

Sturgeon
@Donward My dark secret is that I don't hate leverguns, I actually really like them which is why I'm such an ornery bastard about them. Belesarius

Steelninja333
Given that today 6.5mm ammo is talked about like its the second coming, why the hell did the japanese switch from a 6.5mm to a 7.7mm round, given that the 6.5 seems perfectly adequate? I believe a lot of it comes from the experience of the Japanese Army fighting in China versus Chinese Nationals using 8mm mausers and the belief that Japanese troops were outmatched. We had this discussion at some point here on the forums as I recall. No doubt the guys will be able to elaborate.
