MCX IS OUT!
Apparently because of ITAR Sig Sauer is pulling out.

The official Press Release https://www.presseportal.de/pm/123053/3796856

Eckernförde (ots) - SIG Sauer will not submit an offer under the current call for tenders of the German Armed Forces for the procurement of a new assault rifle.

In doing so, the company is reacting to what it considers to be unfavorable terms in the competition. The technical requirements of the tender were so clearly and clearly tailored to the competitor Heckler & Koch that SIG Sauer does not expect any chances to win the contract.

This is all the more surprising since the decision on the new acquisition of a new assault rifle for the Bundeswehr is largely due to any alleged by the policy of precision deficiencies of the currently in-service weapon G 36 just this competitor.

And the company does not want to jeopardize its good reputation "as a pure stroke candidate".

Short time window - missing ammunition

Also, the time available to submit the offer was clearly too short to provide a competitive sample weapon. Companies that are not already Bundeswehr suppliers are clearly disadvantaged, according to a company spokesman.

This is especially true for the test of the rifle with the desired ammunition. This test is a crucial detail for a successful test of the weapon under the aspect of the special requirements for the desired ammunition compatibility.

SIG Sauer was already promised the access to the type of ammunition used by the Bundeswehr 1 ½ years before the start of the tender, but then suddenly refused.

Suppliers who already have such ammunition as suppliers to the Bundeswehr are clearly favored by the tender.

Discrimination against US products

Finally, blanket discrimination against US products and bidders is also surprising. Thus, for the first time as part of the call for tenders for assault rifles, the "ITAR freedom" of the products was defined as an undifferentiated exclusion criterion. ITAR is a US regulatory framework designed to control arms, defense and defense trade. This exclusion criterion already applies to mere supplies and even if the weapon is produced in Germany.

As a result, all manufacturers with even a minor US reference will be unloaded from the tender.

In the preceding competition for entry and in the tendering of an assault rifle for the special forces of the Bundeswehr at the beginning of this year, there was no question at all of this "knockout criterion". All the more the suspicion must be imposed that first of all the admission of several participants in the preceding competition of participation the impression of a genuine selection decision among several bidders is to be awakened.

Fair competition necessary

SIG Sauer sees itself basically in a good position to also score points in a Bundeswehr tender.

"We have very modern and competitive products and were able to win fair tenders in Germany as well as abroad," says SIG Sauer Managing Director Franz von Stauffenberg.

"As a supplier to the Bundeswehr, SIG Sauer would be a great asset, but we will not be involved in submitting an offer, even though it is difficult for us, to tailor a tender, whose general conditions and handling are so clearly tailored to a competitor "criticizes the tendering process from Stauffenberg.
