Speaking of patriotism...

The logical end of the 2-year Mueller investigation concludes with President Trump roughing up the special prosecutor on floor of the Capitol.

If it actually comes down to a physical confrontation,  like in some terrible action film, I'm betting on the former Marine who earned a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart.

Via New York Times columnist maureen Dowd...

Barack Obama -- Just Too Good For Us

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/02/opinion/sunday/obama-ben-rhodes-world-as-it-is.html

As president, Obama always found us wanting. We were constantly disappointing him. He would tell us the right thing to do and then sigh and purse his lips when his instructions were not followed.

Shortly after Donald Trump was elected, Rhodes writes in his new book, “The World as It Is,” Obama asked his aides, “What if we were wrong?”

But in his next breath, the president made it clear that what he meant was: What if we were wrong in being so right? What if we were too good for these people?

“Maybe we pushed too far,” the president continued. “Maybe people just want to fall back into their tribe.”

So really, he’s not acknowledging any flaws but simply wondering if we were even more benighted than he thought. He’s saying that, sadly, we were not enlightened enough for the momentous changes wrought by the smartest people in the world — or even evolved enough for the first African-American president.

“Sometimes I wonder whether I was 10 or 20 years too early,” Obama mused to aides.

We just weren’t ready for his amazing awesomeness.

...

...

The sad thing is I don't think Dowd was being ironic when she wrote that.

I had to read Dowd's column four times in order to discern it wasn't some form of subtle satire. It is a telling admission coming from a Pulitzer Prize winning columnist of America's newspaper of record. And it's something I've run across te and again when listening to liberals describe their favored elected officials.

Its not good enough that Obama was President. He was BETTER than us. Hillary Clinton was the smartest woman in the world. They are Messiahs. They are religious figures come to lead their followers to the Promised Land.

Counterpose this with Trump supporters. Or even the GOP UNDER Dubya, I don't recall that sort of thing. You read or hear conservatIves saying "Donald Trump -- Just Too Good For Us". It would be laughable on the face of it.

And it would be against the whole raison d'être of his schtick. If you listen to his supporters, Trump's appeal is that he says what the Average Joe is thinking. He's just one of the guys. He was hired to do a job.

Please explain to me how disrupting relations and trade with Canada benefits the US.

And where I pulled that article from;

The tariffs are in large part a byproduct of the ongoing NAFTA negotiations.

I stopped reading Maureen Dowd a long time ago.  She is terrible.  The NYT has a number of columnists I refuse to read, including David Brooks and Tom Friedman.

Interesting that this blows up now; it's been a matter of Constitutional debate for decades. Notably, Giuliani said that if the President did pardon himself, it would go to court virtually immediately. So in the crazy world (of 2019?) where this does happen, maybe we'll finally get some kind of ruling on it.

I love how this has blown up. The quote I heard from the President is that, yes, he could pardon himself - and here's the important part - but he won't have to. The American Left in their hysteria has already jumped ahead in their fantasy to the stage where Trump has already been indicted and convicted in a court of law, and therefore needing a pardon. Which is hilarious considering there is nothing even remotely criminal this President has engaged in before or after he took the oath of office.

In fact, two years of fishing by the Special Prosecutor has uncovered more instances of illegality on the part of the Obama Administration and members of the FBI.

And as Sturgeon said, this is an issue of Constitutional debate which has been bandied about for decades or more. And any reading of the Constitution seems pretty clear that it's the House of Representatives which votes to impeach, and a trial to remove the President is held in the Senate. We saw this during the Clinton Administration.

Wow, if they are serious about that article, then they can't impeach Trump for crimes committed before he took office. And what crimes has he committed since he took office?

I guess you guys don't remember the left and the media saying Hillary could pardon herself from anything that came out of the email server or euranium one scandal.  How soon the left forgets it's own claims.

So some guy's legal blog constitutes "The Left?"  I don't remember anyone talking about Hillary having to pardon herself.  Certainly, I don't remember anyone within her campaign or the Obama administration talking about it.  This is just some lawyer speculating.  Totally different situation than now, where the president is tweeting about it himself.
