But muh Blue Wave!!!

http://www.tampabay.com/florida-politics/buzz/2018/06/18/as-bill-nelson-fights-for-political-life-against-rick-scott-concerns-grow-among-democrats/

Democrats in Washington and Florida aren't laughing. They are increasingly nervous as Scott and Republican allies have unleashed a flood of money into TV and online ads — roughly $20 million so far, more than Nelson's 2012 opponent spent on the entire campaign — and maintain a superior organization that spares no opportunity.

...

Democrats generally have the advantage of running in a midterm election that historically favors the party not controlling the White House — incumbents like Nelson do especially well — and President Donald Trump continues to motivate the Democratic base. But the narrow path for Democrats to reclaim the Senate runs is challenged by states that Trump won, including Florida.

Nelson is suddenly one of the party's five most vulnerable members in the country, and the nation's third-largest state is by far the most expensive state of those five. A victory for Nelson will be extremely costly and could drain resources from Democrats elsewhere.

...

So the logical conclusion is that @Oedipus Wreckx-n-Effect will buy a broken down Sen. Nelson after the campaign, jab in a small block V8, and beef up the suspension and steering and take it out to the track.

God Emperor Trump announces creation of Space marines

http://thehill.com/policy/defense/392799-trump-directs-pentagon-to-create-space-force

“I’m hereby directing the Department of Defense and Pentagon to immediately begin the process necessary to establish a space force as the sixth branch of the armed forces. That’s a big statement. We are going to have the Air Force and we are going to have the Space Force, separate but equal.”

Thus fulfilling the promise to make memes great again.

CLARIFYING: Since a couple of people have responded in ways that make me think they read this as a moral statement, I'd like to clarify that the below is all game talk. I am talking about how this might affect the two sides in their political contest, not who's right and who's wrong.

Hrm, I would have thought Adams of all people would have seen the bad optics here.

Frankly, I think this is where the Democrats are politically strongest right now. It's not much, but it's... Something.

On a technical level, I agree that if you're stopping people at the border, and you're not holding children accountable for their parents' crimes, then yeah, separations will be a part of that. But the optics of crying children inside cages like you'd see at the dog shelter are unbelievably bad.

Setting aside that the photos of crying kids in cages are from years ago and that almost all of the kids in custody were either unaccompanied or came with strangers.

I will give Democrats and the media credit for how successful they have been at pushing such an open lie.

If you'd like to throw some knowledge my way, I wouldn't turn it down. Maybe you're right.

Strongly disagree.

Refugees and immigrants are sympathetic figures when they are few in number and when they come from unavoidable circumstances.

Anyone who hates Trump is going to wail about this, obviously.  But this approach unavoidably draws attention to the real conditions of the US/Mexico border.

Anyone who digs a little is going to find out that these people had children with them because they were trying to game the system.  And that this new policy was enacted because there was a seasonal increase in border-crossing, which had happened before because it's driven by the availability of agricultural work.

In short, any sort of concerted attention on the issue will get some number of people to look deeper into the situation.

I don't expect anyone with a greater understanding of the illegal immigration issue in the US to necessarily agree with Trump's policies on it, but I do expect them to regard the Democrat's framing of it as extremely incomplete and disingenuous.

Maybe. That seems like higher-order thinking than most people usually practice, to me.

How about the Media and Democrats making a big deal about a policy that has been in place for decades, the day the report about the biggest scandal in government history comes out, to keep said report out of the spotlight.  The Media and Democrats are lying and ginning this up to cover up the FBI Scandal, and the dumb ass media is playing along.  We all know, when you arrest someone, their kids get taken away, everywhere in the US. Granted they are given back to another legal guardian, if one is available, or go into the foster system. These kids, some of whom are being smuggled in by traffickers posing as family members, are only held for 20 to 40 days while a legal relative is looked for, and or they are handed over to DHS if they can't. They receive top-notch medical and dental care while in custody.

No this is all about the left and the media covering up the FBI and DOJ trying to stop a validly elected candidate taking office.

This is just the left using these kids, like they used the DACA kids, the school shooter kids and everyone else they've tried to use as a club against Trump.

I mean... I agree with all that, but I still think this looks bad for Trump and might affect his appeal. At least, it has a better chance than anything else the Democrats have.

Yeah, but they will fuck that up too, the Reps already have a law in the works, to keep families together, Ted Cruise I think is doing it, and of course just like on DACA, when offered a good deal they will refuse, and then Trump can spin it and smear the shit right back on the Dems like he did with DACA.

The Pelosi bill is an abortion that would make it so no feds could separate kids from parents. On top of that, her nasty old hag ass jumping on this, as if it was the soul of a Baby she could consume to keep her unholy deal with the devil going, will hurt support for the issue. Hell, Hillary, who said ship the fucking kids back where they came from, is now on this to attack Trump.
