So for all the intellectual masturbating by the bean counters over polls, Polls, POLLS this election, turns out the only one that came close to being right was the much maligned LA Times/USC poll.

You know, I never wanted to post in this thread, but, I nerded out over this and must respond that I don't think the comparison is apt.

 

The White Walkers don't seem to want political power, nobody really knows what exactly they want other then to murder the shit out of everything and have an army of corpse slaves (and abducting babies), he also wasn't born by placing a dagger of enchanted dragonglass in his heart last I checked, but that's open to speculation. Trump is more like a dumber version of Walder Frey when you think about it.

 

Hilary is sort of like Cersei, in the sense she sucks at keeping any of her dirty work a secret, but she's more like Yara Greyjoy who's also a cunt really (like pretty much all the Greyjoys), and it shows when just when she thinks she's queen of the Iron Islands, she loses at the last moment to the king's returning uncle.

 

Also, as anyone who watched the Season 6 season finale saw,

Unlike Hilary, Cersei actually does become Queen of the Iron throne near the end of the season 6 finale episode, Though she clearly never had hackers working against her.

 

Well, I didn't thought to compare US with Iron Islands or other tiny realm that's why I picked Cersei and White Walkers.

 

Cersei is Queen without any legitimacy, so was HRC in polls, media etc.

 

@Belisarius: I also noticed a change of tone in his speech, it was conciliatory which gives me reasons to hope that not all those silly things he said in campaign won't actually happen.

 

I still don't like this guy at all although I do sympathize with Republicans generally from my distant foreign observer. I won't suddenly change my view on him now that he won. 

 

Last evening it was a party at Bucharest Hard Rock Cafe, Election night, organized by the embassy. I talked with a friend who was there (he rates himself as an independent, never votes) and he said the hit of the night was "I will survive" and it looked like Titanic.

 

Few thoughts discussed in Romania during this electoral campaign:

 

- US is the only serious warrant of security for Romania and the partnership is paramount and some consider is even more important or assuring than NATO membership; also Romania is one of the most pro-american countries in Europe.

 

- HRC was main option due to her engagement to support US allies; anyway, even with Trump declaration, people seem pretty relaxed since there is an agreement between parties to spend at least 2% from GDP on defense and this is a decision taken from some years, first acquisitions being already made/decided (F-16s, Sigma corvettes, Spike missiles) while others are on debate (new APC, new MBT, more jets, SPGs, new MLRS etc.)

 

- We discovered we aren't the only people who have two choose between the lesser damaging personality. 

 

- Moderate trust in US system checks and balances. 

 

- Horror, we don't have an anti-system or extremist candidate/party to have the slightest chance to make it into the Parliament or into a significant public office with parliamentary elections one month away so again we aren't on the same step with the Western world.

However, on GOT, I can see the Dragon and Jon's wildling's army with bear skins joining forces on a rush toward the Iron Throne so I can agree that a wall wouldn't have any meaning to keep Dornish out.

Looking at my acquaintances and people I follow, the liberal Clinton wing is freaking the fuck out and crying, the leftist Sanders/Jacobin wing is preparing to push to take over the Democratic Party. Interesting few years ahead of us.

 

In 2008 and 2012 there was about 24 hours of heartache by Republicans over McCain and Romney losing followed by ZERO FUCKS being given about the loss, followed by anger and betrayal.

 

I have a hunch that the same thing will happen mighty fast with Democrats. Congratulations Democrats! Trump has saved you from being shackled to the Clinton machine for another 4 to 8 years.

If it doesn't happen, Democrats are royally fucked until it does. Can't beat a right wing populist with an elite status quo establishment candidate, you need a left wing populist to fight that. Yep. I've mentioned this before. But what we saw this go around is a Third Party candidate in Trump who really is a Reform Party member winning the GOP nomination and the Office of President. And the Democrats almost had a Third Party candidate in Sanders (who is a Socialist) almost winning the Democrat. And he might have won it if your party didn't have such an awful nomination process with the Super Delegate system. 

 

This win will hopefully see a rejiggering of the traditional political party system with more attention being paid to constituents and less to corporate donors who have been gaming the system by bankrolling both sides.
