Two Miramar Police Department SWAT Officers Suspended for responding to the Stoneman shooting without orders.

Quote

Some critics have called the officers who stayed outside and waited for permission to enter “cowards,” but now Miramar police are punishing two members of their own elite unit who did rush toward danger to try to save students' lives.

Miramar Police Detectives Jeffrey Gilbert and Carl Schlosser were suspended from the Miramar SWAT team eight days after the shooting in Parkland, according to the Miami Herald.

Both remain on active duty with the department, but working in different capacities, the Sun-Sentinel reported.

“Effective immediately you have been suspended from the SWAT Team until further notice,” Miramar SWAT team commander Captain Kevin Nosowicz wrote in a Feb. 22 memo obtained by the Miami Herald through a public records request. “Please make arrangements with the training department to turn in your SWAT-issued rifle.”

The memo said Det. Gilbert and Det. Schlosser acted “without the knowledge or authorization from your chain of command” and created an “officer safety situation due to dispatch not knowing your location or activity” by heading to the massacre-in-progress independently.

ST. GEORGE, Utah — UPDATE: Police said a homemade explosive device was the item discovered in a backpack at Pine View High School Monday, that forced the evacuation of the school. Police said if the device had detonated, it would have caused significant injury or death. Police have a suspect in custody.

A warrant served at the male juvenile's home and items were found consistent with the materials used to build the device. Police also said the suspect had been researching information and expressing interest in ISIS and promoting the organization.

The boy has not been identified but police said he was attending a class at Pine View.

(KUTV) — A juvenile was arrested Tuesday morning after a 'potentially' dangerous homemade device was found at Pine View High School on Monday.

The juvenile was interviewed as a person of interest, police say.

During the interview with investigators, the suspect admitted to taking the American flag down and replacing it with an ISIS flag at Hurricane High School.

The suspect also admitted to spray painting "ISIS IS COMI" on the school that same morning, police say.

On Monday afternoon, investigators served a search warrant at the suspect's home, which found several items that tied the suspect to the crime at Hurricane High School.

According to police, the suspect was arrested and placed in juvenile detention.

This investigation is ongoing and criminal charges are pending.

Hurricane Police Department spoke regarding the investigation on Tuesday morning:

Authorities said that while charges have not yet been solidified, charges for criminal mischief and graffiti are possibilities. Police also confirmed that items were indeed found during the execution of the search warrant that linked him to the incidents at Hurricane High School.

Police said the latest package explosion was reported in the 6700 block of Galindo Street, near East Riverside Drive and Montopolis Drive, just before noon.

Austin Police Chief Brian Manley said the APD and the USPS will work with the FBI and ATF National Response Team along with other agencies to investigate and they will "leave no stone unturned." He said officials believe this explosion is related to two previous explosions -- one that occurred earlier on Monday, another that happened 10 days ago.

Manley said that the APD has received offers from other agencies should police need extra force as many officers are being utilized for the South by Southwest festival. Though he did not say festival goers should be overly worried, he stressed the importance of "if you see something, say something."

"We are having innocent people getting hurt across this community, and it is important we come together as a community to solve this," said Manley.

Manley said it is not believed this package was left by any official delivery service, and they currently do not have any suspect or vehicle descriptions at this time. Police did not want to give detailed descriptions of the suspect packages, saying any unexpected package could be deemed suspicious.

Chief Manley tweeted that if you receive a package that you are not expecting, "DO NOT open it," and instead call 911 immediately. He later said if this happens, stand as clear as possible until police arrive.

According to KVUE Reporter Christy Millweard, Austin police evacuated neighbors from the area after the explosion in an attempt to keep it clear.

This is the second reported explosion in Austin Monday, March 12. The first happened in Central East Austin at a home where a suspicious package was left on the doorstep of a single-family residence. A 17-year-old boy was killed, and a woman in her 40s was injured.

Police said they believe Monday's explosions could be linked to the deadly explosion on March 2 in Northeast Austin that killed a man. Police the deadly explosions as homicides, and say both fatal victims were African Americans.

Police said the first explosion occurred in the Harris Ridge neighborhood, the second in East MLK, and the third in Montopolis.

Austin Mayor Steve Adler reinforced Manley's sentiments in a tweet warning residents to be cautious about suspicious packages.

Police are advising us to be aware of suspicious packages and to call 911 if you receive something you weren’t expecting, from a unknown source, or that is mislabeled. Do NOT handle the package. Call 911 and @Austin_Police will handle it. https://twitter.com/Austin_Police/status/973223738052194304

So after nearly half a year has passed, surveillance footage of the Las Vegas shooter is finally released, with the mandalay Bay Casino giving the New York Times access to some of its footage.

https://www.nytimes.com/video/us/100000005794914/las-vegas-gunman-planned-massacre.html?smid=tw-share

(Also, the intrepid staff at NYT thinks that bipods are "gun stands").

And looking at the coverage, I see a lot of guys with guns - many of whom have no doubt grown up around guns their entire lives - out there protecting a global corporation hell bent on eliminating the right to own said guns.

Am I politicizing a tragedy?

Yep.

The San Francisco Chronicle's current coverage.

https://www.sfchronicle.com/news/article/Police-respond-to-reports-of-possible-shooting-at-12802771.php

A San Bruno resident who identified himself as Jesse said he was getting a hamburger at Carls Jr. across the street from the YouTube offices when he suddenly heard three shots in rapid succession. A young woman came out of the office, shot in the left leg. He said he helped drag her into the restaurant before hearing more shots ring out.

Jesse said he ran back toward the YouTube office and looked through the doorway and saw a woman lying on the ground.

“She was dead, I’m sure of it,” he said. “Those 10 shots were rapid fire - it was no mercy. There were four more shots after that. I wish I had had a gun but I didn’t. I had to be smart and get out of there. I had to be fast.

So the alleged shooter is a Vegan Bahai Persian athlete and animal rights activist named Nasime Sabz whose YouTube channel was filtered?

https://www.nbcbayarea.com/investigations/Suspect-in-You-Tube-Shooting-Posted-Rants-About-the-Company-Online--478711713.html

And her YouTube account has now been terminated...

This account has been terminated due to multiple or severe violations of YouTube's policy against spam, deceptive practices, and misleading content or other Terms of Service violations.

I guess shooting up the YouTube corporate campus counts as a Terms of Service violation...

And her website.

http://www.nasimesabz.com/

Where she rants - legitimately - about YouTube's demonetization policy.

She's also a chicken lover...

Is it time to ban vegans and animal rights activists from owning firearms?

The night before Nasim Aghdam opened fire in a courtyard at YouTube’s headquarters Tuesday afternoon, Mountain View police found the San Diego woman sleeping in her car.

She had been reported missing by her family in Southern California, and her father Ismail Aghdam told police she might be going to YouTube because she “hated” the company. Police called the family at 2 a.m. Tuesday to say she’d been found and that everything was “under control,” her father said.

Quote

In an interview Tuesday night with the Bay Area News Group, Ismail Aghdam said his 38-year-old daughter told her family a couple of weeks ago that YouTube had been censoring her videos and stopped paying her for her content. “She was angry,” he said in an interview from his Riverside County home.

Okay she did in fact post those Chinese dog abuse videos, I can't really blame Youtube for demonetizing that.
