The only major thing it's missing is reopening the registry for new machine guns. If you are going to make bump stocks machine guns, provide a legal pathway to own them.

My commentary from Facebook:

Let's call this the "Yamane Plan" (although I've proposed similar compromises). It's the sort of proposal that both gun owners and gun control advocates could support, which means it has a chance of actually getting passed if it's disseminated widely enough.

I see one big problem with the Yamane Plan, though, and that's the fact that gun control advocacy appears to be financially stimulated primarily by elites with an agenda, and that agenda does not have room for this kind of compromise. Bringing SBRs and suppressors down to Title I is from a technical perspective the most sensible and innocuous relaxation of current gun law you can make - but we already know how Bloomberg and co. would react to this idea. Legalizing suppressors, according to their rhetoric, would invite stealth assassins to murder children en masse. They said as much after Vegas.

So basically, the Yamane Plan would not receive the backing of the pro-gun control elites, and that would both hurt its appeal with grassroots gun control advocates, and it would mean that it wouldn't put an end to big money gun control advocacy. That, in turn hurts its appeal with the pro-gun side because the assault on their rights wouldn't end - and they would probably feel like the noose had in fact tightened.

The other issue with opening the NFA  MG registry (killing the Hughes) is that there are a sizeable number of current NFA owners who DO NOT want to see more MG's out there.

Some for financial reasons ("de-valuing my collection! Oh Noes!") and some for political/prestige reasons I know of at least a half dozen NFA/MG collectors who think EVERY gun owner should have to go through the equivalent of a NFA background check to own ANY firearm. A few more are of the attitude of "Do you want just anyone to own any gun!?!"..

There is a disgusting caste/class system within the NFA community, that frankly, needs to die.  And it will go down kicking and screaming.

36 Hours: From Leading Anti-Gun Violence Rally to Capital Murder Charges

DOTHAN - "Man, that's a brand new car," Reverend Kenneth Sharpton Glasgow told a bystander as he was escorted over to a Dothan Police Department vehicle Sunday night.

The car he was referencing was a 2018 Toyota Camry that was in the middle of a murder crime scene at the intersection of Lake Street and Allen Road. Glasgow indicated to the bystander that the Camry belonged to him, and the vehicle may have had damage from gunshots.

Glasgow, 52, wasn't wearing handcuffs, but he did ride in the backseat of the DPD vehicle away from the scene.

"We were ducked down in the car while it was happening," Glasgow continued.

Later in the night, the Camry would be just one of many problems for Glasgow. The same man who led a march against gun violence just 36 hours before was being charged for capital murder in a case featuring some of the worst gun violence Dothan has seen in months.

Glasgow walked Dothan's downtown streets Saturday shouting through a megaphone about bringing change to America's gun laws.

The Sunday night crime scene spanned for blocks. DPD officers worked to find a number of shell casings to preserve as evidence in the case.

The murder victim, 23-year-old Breunia Jennings, was in a wrecked Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS that had significant damage. The vehicle's back window was shot out leaving glass all over the intersection. Just feet away was Glasgow's Camry.

He indicated he was a witness to the crime, and according to Dothan Police on Monday he played a major role in orchestrating it as well.

More coverage will be shared on DothanFirst.com and on WDHN News broadcasts. There are more charges in the murder case.

Reverend Kenneth Sharpton Glasgow is the brother of well known activist Reverend Al Sharpton.

Is it me, or is that "News Story" so poorly written, a grade schooler could have done better? So Al Sharpton's brother may have murdered someone? Much confused.

Here's a better source in the meantime.

http://www.dothaneagle.com/news/crime_court/kenny-glasgow-s-capital-murder-charge-based-on-alabama-s/article_38b2bdb2-3143-11e8-8e16-c7121591ae58.html

Local community activist Rev. Kenneth Sharpton Glasgow faces a capital charge stemming from a Sunday night fatal shooting due to Alabama’s aiding and abetting law.

Dothan Police Chief Steve Parrish said investigators do not believe Glasgow fired the shots that killed 23-year-old Breunia Jennings of Dothan, but believe Glasgow was the driver of the vehicle used in the commission of the murder. That makes him culpable to the same capital murder charge that 26-year-old Jamie Townes, the alleged gunman, faces under the complicity section of Alabama’s code, Parrish added.

Parrish said officials conferred with District Attorney Pat Jones’ office before his department filed the charge against Glasgow.

Under Alabama Code 13A-2-23, “a person is legally accountable for the behavior of another constituting a criminal act if, with the intent to promote or assist the commission of the offense (1) he procures, induces, or causes such other person to commit the offense; or (2) he aids or abets such other person in committing the offense; or (3) having a legal duty to prevent the commission of the offense, he fails to make an effort he is legally required to make.”

In a press conference Monday afternoon, Parrish said it appears Jennings stole Townes’ vehicle. Townes got into Glasgow’s vehicle, and the two followed Jennings while she drove.

Townes fired several shots into the vehicle Jennings drove, he said, striking her in the head. She later died from her injuries.

The incident took place on Allen Road near Lake Street.

In 2009, a Houston County jury returned guilty verdicts of kidnapping, attempted murder and robbery against a Wiregrass woman who drove a person to a convenience store to commit a robbery. The man, Andrevis Davis, shot two Dothan Police officers who responded to the robbery. Authorities charged Teona Sterling under Alabama’s aiding and abetting law. Sterling was sentenced to a combined 235 years. She has served 10 and is eligible for parole in 2023.

This is what we call in the news industry "burying the lede".

The headline should read "Reverend Al Sharpton's Brother Arrested for murder" with the lede of the story being "Reverend Kenneth Sharpton Glasgow", the brother of infamous civil rights firebrand Al Sharpton was taken into custody last night for suspicion of homicide."

At that point you mention the some of the key details. The incident happened at the intersection of X and Y. The victim's name and age was so-and-so. A handgun was found on the scene or witnesses describe seeing Glasgow shooting out the back of the victim's car window. Authorities say the incident stemmed from road rage or whatever. Third or fourth paragraph should read "Ironically, Reverend Glasgow was involved in a march for life rally 36-hours earlier decrying gun violence. The remaining paragraphs should be background information which include a statement from the police spokesperson or district attorney. If there's any witness testimony include it now. Then you give background on the suspect himself. How long he's been in the community, his church, his congregation, and previous incidents where he's been in the news. At the bottom, again, repeat that he is Al Sharpton's brother.

For photographs, the newspaper needs to use either a booking shot of the suspect, any footage of the crime scene that might be available - a shot up passenger car and police tape is always nice. If the story jumps from the front page to the back, then you include any file photo you have of Glasgow and Sharpton together.

That's how you write a news story. Literally I can write up a 400 to 600 word story on this in well under an hour with the only delays being how long it might take to get phone calls back from a couple of quoted sources. And that's only because I used to ALWAYS insist on including quotes from individuals whom I've talked to in person or via the phone before they were included. None of that quoting Twitter bullshit.

Just got a voice message from my buddy in Dothan, an EMT who knows who worked the scene.

Quote

So a couple of my buddy's work that. Current story, so the guy's got back from a rally. They got back and they found a car was stolen by a local lady who does some illegal shit from what I know. So they went looking for this girl, her car. And when they found her, tensions were high. Either they fired at her while she was driving, or they made her stop and then shot her. Basically, they hunted her down and killed her because she took a car. End all be all? Somehow a girl took the car, maybe loaned to her or stole it, but dude got pissed at this guy decided to hunt her down and kill her for it. I dunno, I wouldn't be surprised if the girl and the younger guy were fucking or something. What's weird is that this Sharpton guy was hanging with a dude 20 years younger than him and thought, "Sure, I'll hang out with you while you hunt down some bitch you know and kill her."

Another thing he mentioned was that the younger guy in the car has a history of stirring shit up in Dothan. For instance, there was an officer-involved-shooting a few years ago of a mentally impaired person. He was a violent schizophrenic off of his meds. The police tried EVERYTHING to deescalate the situation, but it got dangerous for innocents and police involved and they had no choice but to shoot when faced with a deranged, violent, murderous individual. Who was also assaulting the police officers and had one of the police officers on the ground and was beating him to death.

This guy then runs a smear campaign against the officer who killed this poor innocent black man in cold blood. Officer had to step down because of it.

Crazy lefty shoots up YouTube. I'm not entirely sure what to think about that. Also, it will be interesting to see the media spin on this one.

By photo shopping her skin lighter and giving her green eyes.

A slight correction, the Mashable writer picked this image out of her instagram.

So a local police department in my neck of the woods successfully issued an Extreme Risk Protection Order against a guy who was acting flakey.

Here are the deets.

At a glance, it seems the cops did a good job at keeping an eye on this person, while not escalating the situation until he actually showed behavior worthy of remanding him to the psych ward.

New York mayor De Blasio's aide busted for having loaded handgun in car.

https://nypost.com/2018/04/08/director-of-citys-office-of-criminal-justice-busted-for-gun-possession/

The bastards also double parked...

A $90,000-per-year director with Mayor de Blasio’s Office of Criminal Justice was arrested along with two men Saturday night in Queens after a loaded gun was found in their car — double-parked just blocks away from the scene of an earlier shooting, police said.

Reagan Stevens — the Office’s Deputy Director of Youth and Strategic Initiatives — was busted on two counts of criminal possession of a weapon after cops found the loaded 9mm gun in the glovebox of the 2002 Infiniti double-parked on the corner of 177th Street and 106th Avenue in Jamaica around 10:25 p.m., cops said.

A single shell casing was also found in the car, police sources said.

The gun seized from the Infiniti carries an eight-round clip, but only had three rounds in it when it was found, sources said.

...

Dear GOD! They also had knives!!!

Stevens — a 42-year-old Brooklyn resident who, according to public records, earns just over $90,000 annually for her work with the city — was sitting in the backseat of the Infiniti when officers approached and found the gun, police said.

Cops also arrested the driver of the car, Caesar Forbes, 25, and a second passenger, Montel Hughes, 24, on three counts each of criminal possession of a weapon.

Both men were also allegedly carrying knives, sources said.
