RobotMinisterofTrueKorea Posted March 15, 2018 Report Share Posted March 15, 2018 So, I'm getting the hang of RB. The tanks that I was iffy on in Arcade have become some of my favorite. The Soviet Tree really shines in RB. I submit this as photo evidence, I hid in a forest and ambushed some poor unsuspecting Tigers. I really took them by surprise because I took down 2 in the time it took to reload. Then I did some mean things to an RU 251, and a Ferdinand, then another Tiger and some SPAAGs. Eastern Europe went from one of my least favorite maps to my favorite bar none. Also this screenshot is horrifically misleading. I had a string of really bad losses that I won't share pictures of, because I was raised with decency and have a sense of shame. Ulric Posted March 15, 2018 Report Share Posted March 15, 2018 Hell, give me Blazer ERA and slap a couple .50s on it. It's a fun tank so far, but it really doesn't feel like it should be at 7.7. I may have been spoiled by the Brits with their two plane stabilizers and APDS at 6.7, though. Jeeps_Guns_Tanks Posted March 17, 2018 Report Share Posted March 17, 2018 So far I like 1.77, I don't have any high-level tanks, so I can't comment on that part, but the new engine and effects are very nice. It also runs a bit better, and after a dust purge, my system is running better, so I went to full screen on the big moniter, and hooked one of the old ones, to use as a side display, so I can see all the system status windows and the War Thunder Auxiliary Map up and still have 3840X2160 goodness. Some of the new effects in 1.77 are very cool, and I now think WT has a firm edge in graphic beauty. We can see the water rings and improve rain. I have yet to find the "running water" feature, but it does fill holes and make rings from the rain . Here you can see the improved ruts, and how they filled with water. Airplane porn! Holy mackerel, I can feel my face burning from the anger condensed into the pages of that site. I haven't really been following that game for a while, so I'm astonished to read that they managed to annoy so many of their players and that the entire NA branch is apparently being shut down. I rather enjoyed the videos and talks The Chieftain's YouTube channel from The Tank Museum and other places. I can't find it anywhere else, but it was called something like 'US AFV development in WW2', and I know you'd like it because it explained why the Sherman was the tank it was, there was a (slightly) indignant audience member who disagreed, and someone else in the audience asked about Belton Cooper. Donward Posted March 21, 2018 Report Share Posted March 21, 2018 Well, my system can run it but only on low setting so I get none of the glamour of the new update. No surprise. I'm cheap, married, and a dad, and have a mortgage on a house in need of restoring so I'm not going to be dropping any money to change that. But my HP lap top can run the game. So there's that. Played 3 games. All Tier 6. The server population was just under 20,000 which... is pretty terrible considering the numbers they had in hey day of the game and this is their new fancy rollout. A coinflip match in Westfield (The big bridge map) where my team over ran everone. Got two vulture kills on wounded tanks in my Hell Kitty but it was just a race to see who could farm damage. The coin flip went against me on Steppes as 2/3s of the team yolo'd one way and died to half their numbers. Held the other side of the map in my Jumbo Sherman, bouncing everything frontally before getting overrun by a Pudel platoon and a skad of other red tanks. Top score and damage in the match. And an Encounter match on Lakeville in my Jumbo Sherman. Went Noob Valley and it seems they've lowered the terrain resistance. Went up against superior numbers including a Black Prince, an A-44 and a pair of tier 6 Kraut box tanks. Jumbo Sherman's armor shrugged off everything and the only damage I took was harassing fire from their arty. Got a master badge for the game. As @Ulric said above, the game has a new coat of paint but there are basic core issues that haven't been addressed. And the main issue I have is that with low population numbers, games are basically decided by which team has been cursed with the most bots/tomatoes/South American players or who has the three-man blue/purple pubstomping platoon. Toxn Posted March 22, 2018 Author Report Share Posted March 22, 2018 Is anyone else starting to get a bit weirded out by just how big the discrepency between the tank tech and plane tech has become? Tanks are up to the beginning of the 80s in terms of technology, while the most advanced planes are still gen 2 jets. Relatedly: is anyone else here kind of resigned to never actually getting to top tier at this point? Because I've been playing (very intermittantly) for years now and am still solidly stuck in the middle tier. Maybe it's just an old-person thing: with maybe an hour a day to dick around, its just impossible to rack up enough hours (something like 500 being needed per nation as a minimum if you don't spend money on it) to actually ever get to the end-game content.
