Collimatrix
Does F-35 have 2 sights, under "nose" and under main part of the plane? Yes. The sensor in the faceted mount under the nose is the EOTS, the one under the belly is part of the AAQ-37 DAS. EOTS is like a FLIR, IRST and laser rangefinder/designator all in one. DAS is a series of passive IR cameras spread around the F-35 to give 360 degree coverage. DAS is for warning about approaching missiles and collisions with other aircraft:

Belesarius
If this happens, welp... I'll be pissed. Waste of billions of dollars. http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/canadian-politics/liberals-planning-to-buy-super-hornet-fighter-jets-before-making-final-decision-on-f-35s-sources-say Edit: As a political move, calling it 'interim' and then promising to hold a competition to replace something that we can't afford to replace makes a certain amount of sense. It also keeps the SuperBug production going, which will make Boeing happy.

Collimatrix
Excellent video with a blow-by-blow of the F-35 program, along with a brutal suplex of Pierre Sprey: I note that just after they cancelled the F136 alternative powerplant, they started having serious problems with the engine installation. Fingers crossed that wasn't false economy.
Collimatrix
A look at the F-35's tactical displays. Look at that gray shape. That's the volume within which a given threat radar can detect the F-35. The exact shape and size is probably obfuscated for security reasons, but the general "butterfly" outline is reminiscent of the simulated RCS of Cal-Poly's Vendetta paper strike bomber project: And it maps fairly well with this all-metal simulation of the F-35: I think we can tentatively conclude that stealth aircraft all have a "butterfly" shaped RCS. Indeed, a similar RCS shape is, according to one story, the inspiration for the "Black Widow II" nickname of the YF-23.
