Swedish Plan to Invade Denmark

Recommended Posts

With Sweden trying to create a Scandanavian Defense Union postwar, the Swedish liberation of Denmark could have easily jump started that effort with more support from Denmark.

I'd bet the Swedes had similar plans with Norway.

There were such plans for Norway too, yes, and more realistic ones too. The Danish plan was more or less cancelled when some boring dudes started asking complicated questions such as "how are we going to conduct an amphibious landing without any landing craft?". The plan involved fishing craft and when they exercised it on the Swedish coast it took for fucking ever for the infantry to get ashore. It would have been impossible if there had been the slightest resistance.

Sweden has always tried to unify Scandinavia since the start of Sweden itself. Sweden and Denmark have fought quite a few wars (many c. the Viking age) over Norway since she's so beautiful (and oily rich).

It actually existed once, containing parts of modern Germany, Norway,  Russia, Estonia, and all of Finland. Notice how glorious sovereign Denmark has never been even partially ruled by Swedish Scum, while the vice versa is quite untrue.

A Swedish Operation Sealion? That's pretty amazing actually.

Probably would've had better odds of success than the German version. In any case, the Swedish Navy's surface forces could e certainly held their own against the Kriegsmarine circa 1945.

Basic planning document dated May 4th 1945, telling the commander of the 3rd army corps to get crackin' on that planning. The invasion force is roughly one and a half infantry divisions, an independent armored brigade, an independent motorized brigade, a bunch of independent artillery batteries and a whole lot of AA including one train-mounted AA company. Additionally the invasion is to be supported by "most of the air force", the ancient coastal defense ships HMS Tapperheten (1901) and Oscar II (1905), three destroyer divisions, a whole bunch of torpedo boats, minesweepers and other smaller craft, nine 21 cm mobile coastal artillery guns, a whole bunch of 15 cm mobile coastal artillery guns and all of the fixed coastal artillery in the Sound. Also, the Danish exile "police brigade" (Danish army personnel with Swedish weapons).

If your landing crafts look like this, though, you're gonna have a bad time:

Another possible way to get Sweden involved in World War 2; have the British bomb them; http://www.sjohistoriskasamfundet.se/fn_split/fn70_a04.pdf

tl;dr British seriously considered stopping iron ore exports to Germany in 1940 by flying a bunch of Swordfish off carriers, bombing Lulea, and landing the planes in (neutral) Finland.
