To be fair, every country has had their share of large construction projects that failed/went far beyond budget.  What will make it particularly German is that once it finally opens, they will parade it as a grand example of superior engineering, despite all evidence to the contrary.

German airports are immune to planes landing from the front, and require at least 5 American or Russian planes to land before they catch fire. In addition, German airports can land planes from over twice the distance that American or Russian airports can land them. Germany only loses out to the US and Russia in airline traffic because the Americans and Soviets outbuilt them using so many cheap, useless airports. Finally, German airport generators don't run on fire-prone gasoline or diesel, like American or Soviet airports. Instead, superior teutonic benzin is used.

I think emissions tests are done on a dynamometer, so it might have just been able to detect when the rear wheels were stationary (AFAIK all the VWs in question are FWD). Still, pretty skilled though.

I always chalked the Tornado up as overrated. Its shitty payload only really getting a pass due to western technoliges, and sometimes even that couldnt make up for it

 

Hell it was probably better as a fighter in British service than a bomber in German service

 

Stuff like the tornado is the reason i still deeply believe that the East German air-force had an edge over the West German air-force during the cold war 

 

Though this news has less do to with the Tornado being mediorce compared to Soviet and American designs and more with Germany criminally under-funding its military

 

Which just bewilders me, sure the Europeans have been getting by a long time on American support, but its hard to pick a western-alligned or HATO country out of a bag without them having major parts of their military relying on German designs most importantly Tanks and SHORAD defense systems, which are critical parts of a modern military

 

Hell the Abrams being the best the Western tank forces have to offers is equipped with licensed German guns

 

Meanwhile we keep hearing story after story about the German miltary being in shambles, in this age of supposed HATO vast force superiority to China and Russia and allies

Not really. I'd say the Tornado ADV was a real dog of a fighter. It's a ground attack airframe that got shoehorned into being a interceptor because the British thought the air superiority F-111 was actually going to happen.
