As Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu declared at the Fifth Meeting of ASEAN Defense Ministers on October 20, 2018, in three years of the Russian group’s participation in the war in Syria, with its support, the ISIS gangs were completely defeated.

“In total, over 87.5 thousand militants were destroyed during the operation, 1 thousand 411 settlements and more than 95% of the territory of Syria were liberated,” said Sergei Shoigu.

The Minister also noted that in Syria, "key settlements have been liberated and the main communications have been restored".

"At present, the Syrian armed forces control the territory where more than 90% of the population lives," said the head of the Russian military.

So it the war in Syria is almost over now?

Maybe?

The biggest unresolved question is what is going to happen to Idlib, which is the largest remaining area in Syria still held by rebels.  There are diplomatic machinations going on behind closed doors.  The next biggest unresolved question is what is going to happen with the Kurdish-held areas, which include a lot of the oil fields.  The remaining ISIS enclaves are probably not sustainable, and I predict will be bombed/starved to death at convenience.  The rebel-held area around the Iraqi border is a bit of a question mark too.

ISIS is a bit too active in Deir EzZor province, after pushing SDF, completely nullifying their advances (which started in September, IIRC), ISIS leftovers raided one of SAA checkpoints using boats to get to toher side and captured some weapons, killed few. ISIS pocket on other side of river should not have been left for SDF, now they built up enough to do raids.

They just seem to be in Syria for purely for photo ops at this point.

What do you mean? Their most recent operation (at least rumored to be) was in As-Safa plato where ISIS had hostages taken from druze community, which was reason why operation stopped. Few days ago hostages were freed, operation was restarted day later (you can see news about that in this thread). Another question that those guys could be from other organisation than SSO...
