The Ministry of Defense of Russia reported that on the night of January 6, an attempt was made by terrorists to attack using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at the Khmeimim air base and the Navy support point in Tartus.

"There are no injured or material damages at Russian military facilities," reported the Defense Ministry. 10 drone drones were approaching the Khmeimim airbase and three more to the logistics center in Tartus. The electronic warfare subdivisions took control of six drones, intercepting their external control. Three UAVs were landed in controlled territory outside the base, three more during landing detonated during a collision with the ground.
The remaining seven UAVs were liquidated.

"Seven UAVs were destroyed by the regular anti-aircraft missile systems "Pantsir-S" of Russian air defense units carrying round-the-clock combat duty," the ministry said.

It is noted that the air base of Khmeimim and the point of the MTO of the Russian Navy in Tartus continue to operate in the planned mode.

What MoD claims:

The Ministry of Defense found in the attack on Khemeymim a third party track

In the design of the drones of terrorists, there are elements of high military technology

08 January Sergey Smirnov / Vedomosti

Of thirteen terrorists launched drones, seven were destroyed by anti-aircraft missile and gun systems of the "Pantsir-S", the control of six drones was intercepted with the help of electronic warfare (EW)

In an attempt to attack the Russian airbase Khemeymim and the fleet base in Tartus, on January 5-6, traces of a foreign country with high technologies are seen, it follows from the report of the Russian Defense Ministry. The military department has uncovered the details of the attack itself on its Facebook page.

...

"Of these, three were planted in controlled territory outside the base, and three more UAVs detonated from a collision with the ground," the Defense Ministry reported. The deciphering of the data of the planted drone allowed to determine the exact place of their launch.

Terrorists for the first time massively used airplane-type UAVs launched from a range of more than 50 kilometers using modern technologies of satellite GPS guidance, the Russian Defense Ministry said. Moreover, the technical maximum range of the devices used is 100 km.

Russian military countered the attack of drones at the airbase Khemeymim This is the second attack on the Russian airbase in Syria in the last week

"The engineering solutions used by terrorists in attacking Russian facilities in Syria could be obtained only from one of the countries that have high technological capabilities to provide satellite navigation and remote control dropping of professionally assembled improvised explosive devices in assigned coordinates ... In improvised explosive devices terrorists attached to an aircraft-type UAV, fuses of foreign manufacture were used, "the Defense Ministry wrote.

Experts establish channels for supplying terrorists with these technologies and devices. "The fact of use by militants of drone unmanned aerial vehicles of an aircraft type indicates that the militants have transferred technologies that allow carrying out terrorist acts using similar UAVs in any country," the ministry concludes.

On the photo published by the Ministry photo is seen assembled on an UAV with a wingspan of 3-4 meters, equipped with a propulsion system of an airplane type.        Separately shown is the remote-controlled ammunition discharge under the wing and ammunition itself - small bombs, stabilizer and a mortar-type fuse.

I guess those were parts bought in Turkey, smuggled to Syria to make those UAV bombers.

In the province of Idlib, the so-called "Ministry of Justice of the Government of Salvation" (designed for the legalization of terrorist gangs) issued a decree announcing an amnesty for some of the prisoners held in prisons. The event itself, though overgrown with a mass of rumors, has a very clear meaning - against the backdrop of a catastrophe at the front of southern Idlib, where the Syrian army and its allies are swiftly moving to the Abu Dukhur air base, some Islamists risk being cut off from the main grouping in the area between Abu Dukhur and Hanasser (on the part of which the Syrians are also moving forward). Not believing in the very possibility of victory, part of the jihadist gangs simply refuses to fight (the Turkish "humanitarian" aid still come to them). Therefore, it was decided to resort to the assistance of criminals who were offered in exchange for early release to be cannon fodder at the front. According to the activists, the amnesty spread to those who were arrested as a member of the "sleeping cell" of the Islamic state in the province of Idlib.

The UN is concerned about the situation with migrants in Idlib

The UN is concerned about the situation with IDPs in Syrian Idlib, where humanitarian organizations have limited access due to security problems, Jens Lerke, the official representative of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said.

"We continue to express our concern about the security situation in southern Idlib and the suburbs of Hama in north-eastern Syria, where the fighting that continues has led to civilian casualties," he said.

According to him, since December 1 of the last year tens of thousands of people have been registered as temporarily resettled because of hostilities. Most of them moved to the north-western and southern parts of Idlib.

"We believe that about 2 million people are in the province of Idlib, half of them have already been resettled before the recent escalation of violence. With the coming of winter, the priority is to provide safe haven. We are trying to provide the necessary assistance to those in need, but security issues remain a problem for us" , - added Lerke.

Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia Adel al-Jubair in December advised the Syrian opposition to focus not on confrontation with Damascus, but on achieving a political settlement at the Sochi conference, Foreign Policy reports. The publication refers to representatives of the opposition and diplomatic sources.

According to al-Jubair, the opposition needs to carefully prepare for the upcoming talks in January to "reach agreement on political reforms."

The Foreign Minister also noted that Riyadh may reduce the military support of the opposition, who are trying to overthrow President Bashar Assad.

Russia and Iran must fulfill their obligations as guarantors of the Syrian peace settlement and stop the advancement of the Syrian government army in the zone of de-escalation in the Syrian province of Idlib, said Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

"The regime's forces are moving ahead in Idlib, Russia and Iran must fulfill their obligations and stop them.We called representatives of Russia and Iran yesterday and made a statement to them," Cavusoglu said in an interview with Anadolu.

He added that the Turkish Armed Forces began deploying the fourth observation post in the largest area of Idlib, controlled by the moderate Syrian opposition.

The drones that attacked the Russian airbase Khmeymim in Syria flew out of the area in the south-west of the de-escalation zone Idlib, which is under the control of the "moderate" opposition, the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper, the official publication of the Russian Ministry of Defense, writes.

"It was established that the launch of the drones was carried out from the area of the village of Muazar, located in the southwestern part of the de-escalation zone" Idlib ", controlled by the armed formations of the so-called "moderate "opposition," the report said.

The Russian military department sent letters to the chief of the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces, General Akar Hulusi, and the head of the National Intelligence Organization, Hakan Fidan, with an appeal to stop such attacks in the future.

"The documents point to the need for Ankara to fulfill its obligations to ensure compliance with the regime of cessation of hostilities by the armed forces under control and to intensify the work on setting up observation posts in the de-escalation zone of Idlib in order to suppress such attacks of UAVs on any targets," message.
