There's an honorary version of death in Arabic?

My Arabic is not very good, but I only remember "died" (مات), "killed" (قتل), became a martyr (استشهد). There's also other stuff like: god took him (توافاه الله), etc. Last one is more of an Egyptian thing btw.

(note: in Islam, martyrs are not counted as dead)

From Reddit:

I noticed that too. They didn't even use the more respectful "توفى".

So yeah, not degenerate, but it could have been more respectful.

Note: I don't speak Arabic. At all.

I wouldn't say that one is more respectful to be honest. But I am Egyptian so.. (the more respectful one is not commonly used here. Egyptian-Arabic uses the normal one most of the time. or the martyr one for martyrs)

Hezbollah, Syrian Army capture several sites in the East Ghouta

I have a little problem with Al-Masdar shoving Hezbollah everywhere.

On Friday night, the Syrian Arab Army’s 102nd Brigade of the Republican Guard – backed by Hezbollah and the National Defense Forces (NDF) – began the 2nd phase of their East Ghouta offensive that targeted the imperative village of Rukabiyah near the Jaysh Al-Islam (Army of Islam) stronghold of Deir Al-‘Assafir.

According to an Al-Masdar correspondent in Damascus City, the Syrian Armed Forces and Hezbollah captured all but 3 checkpoints in Rukabiyah, leaving only a small portion of the village under rebel control.

The Syrian Armed Forces and Hezbollah have already captured the southern part of the town after launching their assault from the nearby villages of Sheba’a and Hatite Al-Turkman. The purpose of this offensive is to clear the highway near the Damascus International Airport; if successful, they will have the strategic town of Dayr Al-‘Assifir become inaccessible to the rebel forces.

More importantly, capturing Al-Rukabiyah will properly position the Syrian Armed Forces and Hezbollah for the imminent Dayr Al-‘Assifir offensive. The rebel forces protecting this village are Jaysh Al-Islam (Army of Islam) and Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group).

Heavy skirmishes embroiled Deir Ezzor today as the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and ISIS militants continued to battle over the provincial capital. Effectively, 23 ISIS fighters were killed as government troops demolished 3 buildings along the al-Arfi street which is located near the Hamdiyeh district and Old Airport neighbourhood.

Furthermore, the Syrian Air Force targeted ISIS positions at the town of Al-Muhasan (south of Deir Ezzor city) which in turn destroyed 4 vehicles and an estimated 15 fighters.

Meanwhile, sporadic clashes are still ongoing at the al-Sina’ah district and Industrial Center as the SAA controls about 80% of both neighbourhoods. Remarkably, the SAA suffered no casualties in Deir Ezzor during today’s battle.

The main fighting force on the government side in Deir Ezzor is made up of: – The 104th Brigade of the Republican Guard (led by Major General Issam Zahreddine). – The al-Qassem group (led by General Ghassan Tarraf). – The 137th Artillery Brigade. – The 17th Reserve Division. – local Sunni fighters of the al-Shaitat tribe. Not much is known about ISIS’ military manpower and capabilities in Deir Ezzor; however, their fighters greatly outnumber the government soldiers defending the provincial capital.

Currently, Tiger Forces (elite offensive SAA branch) are pushing east of Palmyra as Major General Suheil al-Hassan has been tasked with breaking the ISIS siege on Deir Ezzor.

The Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division – backed by the National Defense Forces (NDF) – continued their military operations in the east Sweida countryside on Friday, targeting the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s (ISIS) positions near the town of Al-Qasr.

According to a military source in Al-Sweida, the Syrian Armed Forces were able to liberate several small hilltops around the ISIS controlled town of Al-Qasr while also killing 13 enemy combatants in the process of this advance. In addition to their advance at Al-Qasr, the Syrian Armed Forces were once again able to push back the ISIS militants from the strategic hilltop of Tal Dhalka near the Khalkhalah Military Airport after an intense battle on Friday evening.

Recently, the Syrian Armed Forces have increased their military activity in the Al-Sweida countryside to coincide with their cleansing operations in the vicinity of the Dumayr Military Airport in rural Damascus.

Breaking: New ceasefire in Syria to be implemented at midnight (29.04)

After a week of bloody clashes in Syria, a brief truce will now take place in East Ghouta (Damascus) and Latakia in just a few hours.

The ceasefire is set to begin from 1:00 a.m. on Saturday and will last just one day in the capital’s eastern suburbs and three days in the Latakian countryside. Russian news agencies quoted an opposition figure saying the new truce would also apply to Aleppo, but al-Masdar News is not able to confirm this.

This regional peace deal comes as hundreds have been killed in Aleppo city which has witnessed heavy bombardment over the past week.

Ceasefire officially begins in Latakia, Damascus (30.04)

The recently brokered ceasefires between the government and rebel forces in the Latakia and Damascus governorates began at 1 A.M. (Damascus Time) tonight, putting a brief end to the violence that has engulfed these provinces. In rural Damascus, the ceasefire between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Jaysh Al-Islam (Army of Islam) was agreed upon for 24 hours; this specifically take place in the East Ghouta region.

The Syrian Arab Army, backed by Hezbollah, was on the offensive before the ceasefire agreement was put in place tonight – they have been ordered to withdraw from Al-Rukabiyah for the time being. Meanwhile, in the Latakia Governorate, the ceasefire between the Syrian Arab Army and Free Syrian Army (FSA) has briefly put an end to the recent offensive launched by the former at the town of Kabani.

The Latakia ceasefire is set to expire in 72 hours.
