   The Chinese destroyers of Project 055 (the Western designation - Renhai-class) are the largest non-aircraftcarrier surface ships currently being built in the world, with an estimated full displacement of about 13,000 tons and a length of 180 meters. In the PRC, they are officially called "destroyers of 10,000-ton class." , and the US Department of Defense they have been called "cruisers" since 2017. Project 055 destroyers should be equipped with universal vertical launchers with 112 cells for missiles for various purposes.

The Houbeis are cute, and with 8 Exocet-like C-801s, not to be trifled with.

They do, however, suffer from the flaw of all FACM: their weapons outrange their ability to adequately identify targets and engage them.

All those flooding holes... that thing is unlikely to be particularly quiet.

The Ohio class, which is notoriously quiet, has many fewer holes;

However, I doubt this is the main determinant of noise (I'll have to dig out my books, but I think propulsion plant noise is more important).

Can they be networked so that the targeting function is off-boarded?
