A valid question, but that's an IR lamp on the T-80U there. On a separate note, I don't think I've ever seen an Abrams with a winter camo paint-job. LoooSeR
https://yuripasholok.livejournal.com/11582901.html Quote The main battle tank T-80BV appeared in the Museum of Russian military history in the summer of 2017. But the restoration was such that tank had to be seriously worked on. For example, the chassis of the T-80BV hd turret of the T-64 on top of it, a lot of equipment was missing on the interior. After a rather long restoration, vehicle finally got to the first running trials. There is still a lot of work to be done, but on the whole, the main thing has already been achieved - the appearance and the interior have been put in order. And yes, this is the only T-80 in private museum in running condition. Spoiler Quote Special thanks Wiedzmin for consultations. LoooSeR
Article (last year) Quote Russian tank crews compared the upgraded T-80BBM and T-72 /.../ “If we compare the T-72 and T-80BVM, then this is like a “nine” [Lada] and a foreign car, the tank driver said. - A very warm vehicle, in winter, even in severe frost, it is not cold in it - you can turn on the warm air from the fighting compartment and from the driver's seat. Most suitable for the arctic climate. And thanks to the gas turbine engine, this tank can even be started in a thirty-degree cold in a couple of minutes. When the turbine starts, you can already go, but it is better to wait until the engine warms up. /.../ Serving the T-80BVM is also easier than the "seventy-two". All connections are sealed. In addition, it "eats" half the oil than the T-72. /.../ "- Visibility, in my opinion, leaves much to be desired, - adds the driver. - On the "seventy two" one large triplex, it is better seen from it. On the "eighty" three triplex and mounted dynamic protection. But you can settle." /.../ Tankers prised the ride quality of the tank. In a few minutes, on a straight asphalt road, the T-80BVM can reach speeds of up to 87 kilometers per hour, and on a dirt road — more than 40 kilometers per hour. All this was made possible thanks to a powerful engine with 1200 horsepowers, with the possibility of increasing it to 1,450 "horses." The tank's ride is smoother, it is easier to turn, less shaking - and this is a guarantee of more accurate shooting. “Frost for this tank is only good, the engine has air cooling,” adds the lieutenant, the commander of a tank platoon. If the T-72 needs 90 liters of antifreeze, then the T-80BBM does not need it at all. - Such a tanl has long been asked for the Arctic, and then, finally, it was made, - sums up the driver. - Now we have an "arctic" tank. LoooSeR
Apperently Relikt module on hull UFP and turret front are anti-tandem-capable, while side ERA modules on hull sides are not and thats why bags were used. Turret sides are covered by anti-tandem ERA, possibly filled with Relikt or other ERA (2S24 boxes). @alanch90 alanch90
