Who's Who?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Online people know me as roguetechie or RT but you can also call me Scott I answer to all 3 in person and online.

My choice of screen name has inadvertently clued me into a disturbing realization that a major portion of nominally English speaking internet users are either dyslexic or very nearly functionally illiterate AND say shit to anyone they think MAY BE a female like the dudes in porn!

First off stop that shit damnit!

Second it's ROGUE TECHIE NOT ROUGE TECHIE douchebags!

Go figure they know enough to know rouge has something to do with women...

As with a majority of you I studied mechanical engineering in college, got halfway through and realized that everything I was being taught was literally a decade plus out of date and the courses I had left to graduate were more of the same crap that did nothing to prepare me for what I intended to do once out of school.

Since I walked away from that I've kind of been on a self guided study program heavily using resources on the internet like text books open courseware and khan academy to learn what I need to complete each new project. (I also have some phenomenally smart people who keep answering the phone when I call asking for help because I'm stuck.)

I've always had an interest in all things military and a rabid gun guy that did his first Ak build before he was out of junior high. (grandpa helped and enabled)

Unlike Nathaniel I still hold onto the delusion that I can CHANGE DA WORLD!

As of the current moment I have a bunch of finished designs and potential products that I need to file patents for, as well as get a business license, an FFL, and then start submitting stuff to tech branch.

I also build my own tools and or repurpose existing items I find cheap, but I genuinely suck at manual machining etc so pretty much all my tools are CNC and or idiot proofed.

I'm also a huge 3d printing evangelist and am working on the whole affordable metal printing, if I'm successful you will be the ftto know.

I can give basic advice on patents.

That would be helpful, I feel like the dumb kid when I come here lol.

You guys are crazy smart

No problem - PM me as needed.

Free piece of advice: don't disclose at all before filing. That's pretty much 90% of patent screw-ups right there.

Right... My problem is my ideas are so good the DOD has already paid someone else to develop them ... LOL

I guess it's kind of validation in a way, and at least I'm just the guy who thinks he came up with it first, not the 80% of people who tell me it's impossible stupid and no military would actually want that!

And then 3 days later I find it on dtic and it's a report from 8 years ago lol.

I'm actually up right now working on something I thought up tonight which hasn't been patented and isn't already for sale.

I'm pretty pleased about this, but the patent will be a bitch to write because it can be used for so many other things, and I'd like to find a way to get the top 10 "off label uses" protected too.

That's why you get a competent patent attorney to write the specification instead. If it really is widely applicable (and novel, inventive etc in each application), then the claims should cover everything. US practice will probably result in a bunch of divisional applications, though (not that they're called that over there), so be prepared for that.

Holy shit that is cool. I'm guessing that there were disadvantages, though.

No idea, all I have been able to find about is is that picture and this one:

ramjet.gif

Fofanov lists:

Quote

Ramjet-assisted APFS round (not fielded, research topic 1976)
Unknown specs and development history

Oh that is a better excuse than "I just got tired of it, Dad. Leave me alone so I can watch anime."

Lol, yeah I was also paying for my courses etc mostly myself, I only took pell grants.

It made the decision easier, and I got an autodesk / solid works guru out of it plus one of the instructors in their machinist program who I can call when I get stuck.

I'm x. Seriously, I have more names/nicknames than screen names, just call me some derivative of xthetenth.

I'm just a really big nerd. I don't do any of the things I know a bunch about professionally, I'm a software engineer. But I've put together a gun and started voraciously consuming firearms content and hanging out with weapons grade gear nerds.

Welcome to this glorious den of autism, X. You'll fit in nicely.
