  1. Yup, I like his stuff.  Won't have a computer till tomorrow evening, so haven't done any serious googling yet.  The gun's looks alone at the store caught my eyes, but the price tag stopped me from getting too interested until I got home and saw his video showing the guts of the gun.  The only other time that I've had such a mighty need for something was when getting my super vepr.  The B76 at the gun store is in a similar condition and price as the one on armslist right now, has the box too.

    I seem to have developed an unfortunate habit of finding a cool gun, researching it, then seeing he's got a video on it.  For better or worse, I have developed a similar taste to him in terms of liking the whacky and well made, though the main difference is that he has the money to support that taste.  I have a Walther P5 that I'll be getting soon, though I at least got it and a spare mag for a lot less than it should have been.  No such deals are to be found on the B76 at the moment though it seems.

  2. Does anyone here have any personal experience with the Benalli B76?  I didn't realize how much I needed one until I saw one at my LGS.  Seems like a perfect blend to me of well made, mechanically interesting, and visually interesting.  If I was interested in buying a gun for purely practical reasons, I would not be looking at this.  Apparently it doesn't like hollow points, but I wasn't planning to shoot hollow points from it anyways.  As a bonus, sounds like it's on the less expensive end of the snazzy steel framed 9mm market.

    Considering selling something from my stash to get it, but struggling to find any that I would want to part with just yet.

    Was rather busy at the time so wasn't able to give the full video a proper watch through, but the person I originally got that from neglected to mention that the person speaking was some dude stretching things to intentionally make it sound bad. I couldn't really find much at the time of posting that to fact check with, including the actual document, but my time has freed up now.   How bad it actually is probably depends on how pessimistic you are, but reads to me like it doesn't really change anything.

We further commit to promote an open and evidence-based public discourse on migration and migrants in partnership with all parts of society, that generates a more realistic, humane and constructive perception in this regard. We also commit to protect freedom of expression in accordance with international law, recognizing that an open and free debate contributes to a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of migration.

    To realize this commitment, we will draw from the following actions:

    (a) Enact, implement or maintain legislation that penalizes hate crimes and aggravated hate crimes targeting migrants, and train law enforcement and other public officials to identify, prevent and respond to such crimes and other acts of violence that target migrants, as well as to provide medical, legal and psychosocial assistance for victims;

    (b) Empower migrants and communities to denounce any acts of incitement to violence directed towards migrants by informing them of available mechanisms for redress, and ensure that those who actively participate in the A/CONF.231/3 18-12606 23/31 commission of a hate crime targeting migrants are held accountable, in accordance with national legislation, while upholding international human rights law, in particular the right to freedom of expression;

    (c) Promote independent, objective and quality reporting of media outlets, including Internet-based information, including by sensitizing and educating media professionals on migration-related issues and terminology, investing in ethical reporting standards and advertising, and stopping allocation of public funding or material support to media outlets that systematically promote intolerance, xenophobia, racism and other forms of discrimination towards migrants, in full respect for the freedom of the media;

    (d) Establish mechanisms to prevent, detect and respond to racial, ethnic and religious profiling of migrants by public authorities, as well as systematic instances of intolerance, xenophobia, racism and all other multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination, in partnership with national human rights institutions, including by tracking and publishing trend analyses, and ensuring access to effective complaint and redress mechanisms;

    (e) Provide migrants, especially migrant women, with access to national and regional complaint and redress mechanisms with a view to promoting accountability and addressing governmental actions related to discriminatory acts and manifestations carried out against migrants and their families;

    (f) Promote awareness-raising campaigns targeted at communities of origin, transit and destination in order to inform public perceptions regarding the positive contributions of safe, orderly and regular migration, based on evidence and facts, and to end racism, xenophobia and stigmatization against all migrants;

    (g) Engage migrants, political, religious and community leaders, as well as educators and service providers, to detect and prevent incidences of intolerance, racism, xenophobia and other forms of discrimination against migrants and diasporas, and support activities in local communities to promote mutual respect, including in the context of electoral campaigns

    "Hate speech laws are OK and aren't a slippery slope ripe for abuse"

    Guy states that some EU countries are set to sign a non-binding agreement on expanding hate speech legislation, especially in regards to criticism towards EU immigration policies.  When the EU first came to be, they probably should have gone for something that doesn't sound so much like "Soviet Union".  What a shitshow

  5. So I tried some WT tanks again after a long break and that part of the game is now practically unplayable now for me.  I don't know what changed between the last time I played and now, but steering feels like I've always got at least 500ms ping, if not more.  There's no such thing as making minor adjustments to the way I'm heading, the quickest tap I can put on my A or D key is still going to put me in a turn for almost half a second.  Steering armored cars is bad enough as it is, but trying to play it while not being able to turn less than 45° in a turn is just disgusting.

    I've done multiple battles in various vehicles to make sure it's not just some specific vehicle, but it's something with the game itself right now.  Whether I'm on the NA server with 50ms ping and no packet loss or the EU one with 120ms, I still get the same problem.

    I passed on the T114 as well since I prefer stuff at tier 3 and lower, so I really don't want to dump all of my GE on a tier 4 meme.

  6. I like this template idea too.  I already mentioned the main reason for me not bothering to figure out any hard stats (some classes I'm in right now already having a lot of this same sort of work), but seeing how much math and detail everyone else was putting into their submissions at the time was giving me the impression that I'd have to calculate out all sorts of junk if I wanted to have a chance to compete with them.  One of my classes I'm in has me designing some gadget down to the last nut and bolt, so I wasn't exactly feeling too motivated to go do nearly the same thing in my free time too.  I've got little knowledge when it comes to designing cartridges or understanding engines, so going into serious detail about either of those was a worry as well.

    A lot of those restrictions I felt were self-imposed on my end, but I'd have probably felt more motivated to complete my submission if I had a clearer idea of when the math would stop giving credence to the design and would start becoming mere fluff.

  7. Gaijin seems to be running their anniversary sale thing, so stuff's 50% off.  I've got 4720 gold left on my account with no intention to buy more, so I'm wondering if I should put that towards the T114 for 4010ge, or get the American Grant for 1000ge and left the rest to spend elsewhere.

    Anyone have any experience with the T114?

  8. Can't post your submission late if it's not a submission!

    XM42 "Prettyboy"

    Drafted up by students from the Tacoma School of Science and Technology as an extra credit assignment, the XM42 never left the drawing board.

    The XM42 was designed primarily with fire support in mind.  For more mountainous regions, it would be able to provide heavy firepower with greater ease than larger vehicles would.  Against the more mobile Mormon forces, the XM42 would be able to more readily respond to threats while still being adequately protected against many of the threats that it would face.

    While not being capable of withstanding heavy fire, the XM42's armor would still be able to stop fire from lighter (and more mobile) threats.

    The turret is designed to be protected against 40mm cannon fire from 100m in a 60° arc.  From the sides and rear, it is protected against .50 machine gun fire from 100m.

    The hull is frontally protected against 20mm cannon fire from 100m in a 90° arc (only 60° arc with engine compartment area).  The crew is protected from the sides against .50 machine gun fire from 100m whereas the engine is only protected against small arms.  Screens can easily be added to the hull and turret to provide protection against handheld antitank rockets.

    Armed with a 3" cannon roughly analogous to the M32A1 76mm gun from before The Happening, the XM42 would be fully capable of taking out any armored fighting vehicle currently being fielded by hostile forces.  Elevation values of -12°/+25° allow the XM42 to better handle combat in the more mountainous regions where combat is expected with Commifornian forces.  A modified M240 is mounted coaxially to the main weapon.  A mount on the turret roof exists for using an M2 heavy machine gun.  58 rounds for the main gun are stored both to the driver's side and in the turret basket.

    The vehicle was to be crewed by 4 men: a driver, gunner, loader, and commander.  A radio is in the turret bustle directly behind the commander's and loader's positions.  A large ventilation fan is located towards the rear of the turret to aid in crew comfort and to remove fumes from the fighting compartment.

    The engine was envisioned as 500hp, providing the tank with around 20 hp/ton, allowing it to better navigate difficult terrain and to react quickly to threats.  The transmission is located in the rear of the vehicle with the engine.  The running gear has 5 moderately sized roadwheels on either side, sprung with torsion bars running the width of the vehicle.  A large plate on the rear hull may be unbolted and folded down to ease maintenance if needed.

    (exact numbers don't exist since I only made this in 3ds max, hence the nickname given.  Numbers were compared to the M41 since they're very similar designs.  The XM42 is assumed to be a somewhat more lean and mean fighting machine)

    (The commander looks like he'd have to poke his head out if he wanted to look around while the tank is hulldown.   Oops!)

    A fire support version with a 4" howitzer mounted in a newly-designed, fully-traversable turret was also discussed.  This variant would have been capable both of direct and indirect fire, allowing it to either serve as a mobile artillery or to provide heavy fire support for troops in areas where the heavier Cascadian 45 ton tanks would be unable to operate.  While the turret is fully enclosed for better protection of the crew, provisions were made for large hatches on the turret's roof.  The new turret is only capable of withstanding 20mm fire frontally, as opposed to the 40mm fire of the base XM42.

    Other versions considered but not drawn include a turreted SPAA with twin 40mm cannons, a utility variant capable of being outfitted for different roles (ARV, armored tractor, engineer vehicle, etc.), and a non-turreted SPG variant with either a long 4" gun or a 6" howitzer.

    I won't stop you from taking this as an actual submission, I personally am entering this both for fun and to keep in practice with modeling.  I do realize this was submitted a few hours past the deadline too.  As I was about to submit this reply, I noticed that I messed up the shape of the exhaust pipes.  Oh well.

    @ApplesauceBandit, @A. T. Mahan, @Lord_James, do we think a Wednesday deadline is enough time? I'm happy to recommend extending it further.

    I'm out of town for the weekend, but that should hopefully be enough for me to at least pretty up the turret and all that.  My tank has all been made in 3ds max as well, so nothing has any actual measurements tied to it at the moment.  I suppose I could always make a rough mockup of it in solidworks to solve that, I'll look into it when I get the chance.

  10. Not a submission

    Didn't go hard on making this a serious submission this time around since I've got classes to worry about right now and a lot of those classes already have me doing stuff similar to some aspects of this (mostly the number crunching).

    Just made this mostly for practice, though it's stuff that won't show up in the final model (hotkeys, cloning objects along a path, fancy details of the meshsmooth modifier, etc.).  The model itself isn't really in a finished state.  Turret is mostly placeholders still, hull still needs some more detail passes done to it.  I want to make some minor layout tweaks as well, mostly in regards to the turret's base and roof.  If this were to be serious, I would make myself a second turret that relies less on casting and would hopefully have a smaller frontal profile.  While I would like to eventually get this finished, that all depends on how lazy I end up.

    Eyeballing elevation puts it at -12°/+25°

  11. Since we've got an arms race, my tank has been showly shifting more and more towards Not An M41.  Going to improve the suspension.  Gave it a meaner gun and a better shaped turret, but made sure to keep all the comfort.  Turret's gotten pretty fat, may be able to trim some off the back half still.

    On second thought, it's entirely possible that I've also just got the turret itself at too large of a scale

  12. I don't think that I'll be able to deliver a proper entry this time around, but I'll probably try to at least refine my mockup so that I've got something pretty to post that's in the spirit of this competition.  I've also got to wonder if I'm partly to blame for the sudden trend of rear turreted light tanks with starship-esque turrets (with mine itself just being a copy of the Teledyne expeditionary tank). 🤔🤔

    Well, we've already had Farage

  14. Still messing around in solidworks, mass is a little over 8t if I've got it all scaled right.  I jerry-rigged the side hull on and did some other stuff in ways that probably weren't quite right.

    Also realized that despite thinking of stuff like the M47, T23, T-55 and stuff in mind when making the turret, it sure does look a lot like the Chaffee's now that I've refined the shape and flattened it some.
