  1. Russia's efforts at addressing its military manpower shortage by giving patients dying of tuberculosis exoskeletons is coming right along.

  3. Yeah. That is rather expensive. The estimates I see are that it costs $10 to $20 a square foot to install the system (and up). And I don't believe that takes into account the cost for the flooring on top of that which you then have to replace (assuming you're remodeling). There are also concerns over the costs of repairing an in-floor system. On top of that, modern heating systems in the US combine not only heat but air conditioning in their HVAC units. So the same heat ducts pushing heat in the winter will push cool AC in the summer. So having a heated floor, you're paying more for a redundant system. If you're going to have a redundant heating system, most Americans would prefer a pellet/wood stove. There's also a concern over the cost of electricity in some regions of the US versus natural gas which can be a lot cheaper. Which is why in the US if you see subfloor heating systems, they are normally relegated specifically to the bathroom, especially if folks prefer tile floors in their baths.
  4. Given the price to retrofit in heated flooring - especially when water pipes are used - it doesn't really make sense.
  5. Reading comprehension and context is a thing. I grew up in White Center so you don't get to pull the race card on me.
  6. Well there is this story of French police brandishing "loaded" H&K G36s. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6586991/French-riot-police-using-semi-automatic-weapons-against-Yellow-Vest-protestors.html
  7. What a shock! Someone in the gun manufacturing industry wants the peons to shut up and get in line. The fact that an NRA board member has to write something like this is indicative of how shit is unraveling.
  8. Gun crime is still a big deal. The way they're going about trying to fix "gun crime" is the issue.
  9. A VERY comprehensive survey by the Dept of Justice which includes 287,400 prisoners who used a firearm in a crime and how they obtained it. Includes graphs and other info https://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/suficspi16.pdf Highlights An estimated 287,400 prisoners had possessed a firearm during their offense. Among these, more than half (56%) had either stolen it (6%), found it at the scene of the crime (7%), or obtained it off the street or from the underground market (43%). Most of the remainder (25%) had obtained it from a family member or friend, or as a gift. Seven percent had purchased it under their own name from a licensed firearm dealer. ... Among prisoners who possessed a firearm during their offense, 0.8% obtained it at a gun show. State prisoners with no military service were more likely to possess a gun during their offense (21%) than prisoners who had served in the military (16%). Almost 3 in 10 (29%) black prisoners serving a sentence in state prison in 2016 possessed a firearm during their crime. White (12%) and Hispanic (21%) state prisoners were less likely to have possessed a firearm during their crime. Similarly, white (17%) and Hispanic (13%) federal prisoners serving a sentence in 2016 were less likely to have possessed a firearm during the crime than black (29%) federal prisoners.
  10. https://nypost.com/2019/01/11/hunt-is-on-for-man-accused-of-attacking-lesbians-at-seahawks-game/ Authorities told the newspaper that two married women sitting in section 118 during the Seahawks game against the Arizona Cardinals reported that a man in their row who was drinking heavily made several harassing remarks to them during the game, including, “Do you need a man in your life?” The man also referred to his genitals and made anti-gay comments, the women told police. The man, later identified as Harp, was “highly intoxicated” at the time, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office — and returned to his seat after getting a beer in the third quarter and grabbed one of the women’s breasts after unzipping her jacket. ... ... Usually this sort of behavior is reserved for Cowboys fans.

  16. Cars, Planes, and Dames! Although I recall some older relative(s) who owned one stating that the push-button PowerFlite transmissions were problematic. Also you gotta love that portable record player. I wonder what the .45s look like after a bumpy ride?
  17. A fairly detailed bit of journalism produced by The Sun-Sentinel newspaper detailing the failures of the Broward County Sheriffs Office and school employees in reacting to the Parkland Shooting. http://projects.sun-sentinel.com/2018/sfl-parkland-school-shooting-critical-moments/?fbclid=IwAR1xyk1pqX69zqGoIGDoZ6A70Ov9c4gBsL3R6_rywr_KE1bt6UvvwjCY1dc Craven cowardice and incompetence on display. Although the local Coral Springs officers seemed to have reacted appropriately. A useful learning tool.

  19. Of greater interest, FINALLY video proof that a Tier 8 tank has been top tier in a WoT match, and not jammed with Tier 10s like what happens 9 out of 10 games.
  20. 240Z was a good car for what it was.
  21. The plan was simple: Steal tools and pawn them for money. They didn’t expect to be surrounded by about six customers with guns raised. https://www.heraldnet.com/news/the-plan-was-to-steal-tools-then-customers-drew-their-guns/ “He won’t shoot, run him over,” one of the suspects reportedly said. The driver pulled forward, causing the man confronting him to land on the hood, court papers say. Another customer shot at the driver’s side front tire, according to documents. A third fired twice at the rear tire. Someone shot at the car one more time as it left the parking lot, records show. ... Marysville police Cmdr. Mark Thomas on Monday said it’s unclear if the other people involved fired their guns lawfully, as they left before law enforcement got there. Security footage showed one of them getting in a vehicle just as the first officer arrived, Thomas said. “Anytime you’re firing a weapon in a public place, especially a few days before Christmas in a crowded parking lot, it is a grave concern,” Thomas said. The department is asking those who shot at the car to come forward and provide statements. ... (Yeah, fuck that.)
