  1. By the by, it's not the first time a M109 got a L52/155mm Rheinmetall gun upgrade - the Israelis have been there before: And the US also developed the M109A6+ International Howitzer, which had a M284 gun stretched to 52 calibers and semi-automation: Speaking of which -- assuming USAR does clear the ERCA for production and acquisition (and provided they work out that excessive wear kink) -- it's actually possible to see both L52 M109s and XM1299s working side by side:
  2. And I suppose they'll be taking an even harder look at APS in light of the puzzling counter-performance of Iron Fist and Trophy in Israel these past few days. Though, to be fair, it is still not known whether it was due to an apparently increasingly endemic degradation of crew training and skill levels across IDF (i.e. crew members not properly operating the system and therefore compromising their own safety) or if it's a flaw in the system (namely, a baked-in selective response that erroneously marks certain threats as negligible...or excessively short attack ranges not giving enough time to the interceptor launchers to swivel and engage).
  3. Still waiting for a peek at that M10-derived MWRV that's supposedly at Booth 6027, possibly in the form of a small model/mockup... For the Army’s homecoming, GDLS comes out of the huddle with the StrykerQB
  4. At least, it looks cleaner than the Bradley-based M-SHORAD aberration from 2017: A lot of robotics this year:
  5. Yeah, it appears to merely be a Rheinmetall L52 155mm mated to a M109A7...unchanged turret geometry means no bustle autoloader like on the XM1299.
  6. Army’s upcoming artillery strategy has ‘a big menu’ to choose from A few interesting things of note. It's not exactly a coincidence there's a L52 M109 at AUSA, given the revelations earlier this year that L58 ERCA had wear and tear issues. Someone smelled blood in the water... That said, I don't think the M109L52 has an autoloader, has it? Just manual loading?
  7. So, the StrykerX was overhauled enough that it should be considered a separate type that warrants a new name. Fair enough. Name's a tad cheesy, though (why not StrykerX+ or StrykerX2?). I wonder if we'll get to see a Dragoon variant of it -- I suppose it depends on whether it drums up enough interest after AUSA. It would, however, make for a rather tall/bulky vehicle.
  8. This is what Nicholas "The Chieftain" Moran said about it on tanknet: One possibility is that that fiberglass portion of the hull was pulled out to make a separate exhibit showing the interior of the (optionally manned) crew capsule. Not too fond of a Thunderbird 2-like, swappable fuselage/hull module concept, though. It's a promissory note for structural headaches.
  9. So now we know where the AbramsX' missing PASEO went. Crafty... And it's even painted like a quarterback's helmet...if they're tapping into sports fandom, what's next, a Shaquille O'Neal Heavy Assault Version?
  10. The US Army is now looking for manufacturers for its tank-killing XM1180 Cannon-Delivered Area Effect Munition (C-DAEM) destined for use in ERCA guns. https://sam.gov/opp/59459a7976b2440cbd64bd5d40d63a47/view
  11. According to Nick Moran on tanknet, who had the chance to watch the actual conference video, the caption reads "M1E3-NG MBT". However, there is also an asterisk at the bottom of the slide, introducing the following warning: "Digital designs not representative of prototype vehicles".
