I find that somewhat hard to believe considering that German SOF selected the HK416A7 instead of a Haenel.

C.G Haenel has beaten Heckler & Koch for the German G36 replacement program. The weapon performed a bit better and was more "economical".

I have accidentally came across this (more info and pictures under the link).
It's relatively recently identified gem of the Czech military museum in Žižkov, Prague (atm it's still closed due to the ongoing reconstruction). For decades it was stored there but until few years back nobody knew what it actually was. In fact it's 1899 experimental machinegun of baron Adolf Odkolek z Újezdce, the original author of the design solutions used in the famous Hotchkiss Mle 1914 MG (Hotchkiss bought Odkolek's patents). Baron Odkolek (whose name is known in here mainly thanks to the bakeries founded by his uncle and existing till today) was a military officer and weapon designer, he was born near Mladá Boleslav, central Bohemia, but in the later part of his life he lived in Vienna where he also died in 1917.
This particular weapon chambered in 7.92x57 Mauser has a serial number 1 and is functional although part of the sights is missing and the belt design is unknown. Its parts were patented in 1899 (in Germany) and 1900 (in Switzerland). It's surprisingly light, just 10,5 kg.

After replacing the FAMAS with the HK-416, the French FR-F2 by the SCAR-H PR (2600 ordered to be delivered before 2021), it has now been announced that the PAMAS G1 (License built Berreta 92) and the remaining PA MAC 50 will be replaced by a Glock of unspecified model (though it can be noted that the Glock 17 is already in service with the special forces and some commandos).
74596 weapons have been ordered.
Exit le PAMAS G1 et le PA MAC 50 : Le ministère des Armées a commandé plus de 74.000 pistolets Glock | Zone Militaire
With that the French army will have replaced the vast majority of its service small arms.
The FN minimi is now the only 5,56 LMG in service
The FN MAG 58 is finishing to replace the ANF1/AANF1 for the 7,62 LMG
The only "Legacy" weapons left will be the 12,7 M2 HMG and the 12,7 PGM Hecate II and AFAIK there is no need to replace it for now (though the army has apparently been experimenting with the CDX40 Shadow in .408)

Japan's Self-Defense Force has selected a new rifle, the Howa 556. It won over the SCAR-L and H&K416.

Supercavitating small arms ammo.
" Classified as Multi Environment Ammunition – MEA – this projectile is effective against submerged targets and targets in the air. Depending on the weapon and the used loading variant, this ammunition is suitable for use in partial or fully submerged weapons, regardless of if the target is in water or on the surface. Due to the unconventional shape and significant mass, this round offers great armor-piercing capability against Multi-Layer Structures. This shape is also very effective against targets with fiber structure or mud, even when covered by sand. This projectile may be offered in two loading variants, A2 and X2, where both enable swimming capabilities. A2 load is the most powerful when engaging targets in air or water, but can only be shot from the air. Suitable for patrol boats, machine guns, coastal guards, and dedicated marksmen that would engage Multi-environment threats. X2 load is designed for combat swimmers and SOF personnel who operates submerged. "
