  1. @ 2:56 Perkins working on upgrading CV12 with common rail and new electronics rated at 1500hp. Answer seems to imply this is for Challenger 2, which would make sense as BAE has a contract to explore powerpack upgrades. We know that there was interest from Turkey for Altay and Nimda for India's FRCV is offering something that looks similar to their Czech T-72 upgrade (CV12@1000hp + Allsion XTG 411-6-N). @5:28 In negations with collaborators for a hybrid powerpack. BAE and Qinetiq? https://www.qinetiq.com/news/2017/05/qinetiq-and-bae-systems-partner-to-exploit-electric-drive-technology-worldwide Qinetiq used Challenger 2 as an example for their E-X-Drive at IAV 2019: There was a report (https://www.janes.com/article/85620/uk-mod-kicks-off-electric-vehicle-drive-study) that the British Army wants to hybridise their fleet of vehicles. All of the above points to a 1500hp modernised CV12 + E-X-Drive powerpack for Challenger 2 as a real possibility. MTU has recently gained a foothold in the UK market with Ajax & Boxer and would most likely offer to upgrade CR2, this seems to be Perkins/Caterpillar's response. Edit: Also
  2. My mistake. Got confused with another Google Translated article.

  5. They're upside down on the Warriors (IFV and Engineering) but correctly mounted on Challenger 2. Another problem was that the feed link wasn't supported enough so would jam. Soldiers would treat it like a conventional machine gun, manhandling it and forgetting to decouple the power when working on it. Hence the "unreliable machine gun that would randomly fire and then take your fingers off when trying to fix it". All of this has been resolved with upgrades and training, only the old-timers still complain about the "chaingun". Yes. He's solid on British Army and Industry (other sources do confirm) which is why I post his messages. But he does like to interject his own views and hyperboles. I believe the firings where done in Germany. So East German?
  6. It isn't. It's actually very good but on some vehicles to get it to fit they had to install it upside down, which it wasn't designed for. This caused a bunch of issues and led to it's negative reputation.
  7. "Speaking at the International Armoured Vehicle event in Twickenham, London, Mr Simpson added that the turret would also include a new armour fit, although details are not publicly disclosable." https://www.monch.com/mpg/news/land/4822-rheinmetall-challenger-2.html Army HQ are recommending Trophy MV for across AFV fleet.
  8. Completely new citadel. The old one was cast. Qinetiq using CR2 as an example for their EX-Drive. A new powerpack is being investigated in a separate programme.
  9. Clearer images: "New Turret" refers to the turret citadel, with re-used equipment mounted on it.
  10. The sights appear to be the same as Ajax from Thales UK.

Rheinmetall focusing on Lynx. Ajax IFV - Page 30 In engineering phase. Hull needs to be lengthened, 300kg added weight. Trial hulls made in Canada, turrets in US. If wins then turret production would move to Australia but Hull would remain in Canada. Costed option to move Hull manufacture to Australia. Bisalloy Armour can't be used for hull as it would invalidate qualified UK survivability and reliability test data. Turret exterior being refreshed. AS21 Redback - Page 32 Fully committed to bid. Heavily based on new K31 IFV. Lance turret not available. Higher blast protection than K31
  13. It's just a test platform, not an official upgrade. The mortar was placed there to use the existing smoke launcher mount and wire. 120mm smoothbore now a requirement for LEP:
