Russia signals intent to quickly revoke ratification of nuclear test ban treaty

Translation : "Nuclear weapons we inherited from the soviet union are past their shelf-life and are now unreliable (or soon will be). Since we didn't built any facility similar to the NIF or the LMJ we'll have to resort to good-old test detonations to built the next generation or renovate the old ones."

Aside from the fact that this is yet another blow to the image of global power Russia is trying to project this is mainly a serious breach against non-proliferation which is particularly egregious coming from a country which has a permanent seat at the security council (though to be fair they weren't the only ones, AUKUS was almost as bad).

What are you babbling about , proliferation is when you give nukes or technology to xy so AUKUS  ,not when you blow some up in tests. And unlike most of the nuclear US arsenal that is actually past expiry, Russians have been rebuilding the nuclear arsenal so its fairly up to date. Given it was breached with AUKUS , NPT its already dead, and mayor nuclear powers like India and Pakistan are not party to  anyway

  2. Iranians have Pickup launch option for many of their drones including shaheds 131 and 136 , might actualy be easyer to load up bunch of pickups than the launch truck also no  booster needed saving bunch of $$ in the process.

Apparently UVZ want to restart T-80 production :

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidaxe/2023/09/10/russia-might-restart-production-of-the-t-80-tank-dont-expect-it-to-happen-soon/

It's surprising that they want to go this way instead on focusing on T-72 and T-90 given that no new T-80 has been produced for over 30 years which mean that suppliers for the necessary parts are either long gone or don't have the production capability anymore. Possibly some bottlenecks in the T-72 and T-90 lines which limits the production while the war in Ukraine require more  tanks to be produced to mitigate attrition?

As the article point out, it is however possible that they still have some unfinished hulls in storage and simply want to use the existing tools to assemble them. They would however be limited by the number of hull in storage and how well preserved they are.

Restarting production  most likely = refubing old  , same is done in US with Abrams hulls

There are 1000+ T80 hulls in storage so can be refurbished and upgraded definitely cheaper and easier than making new hulls, mating a T90M or better yet a Burlak turret would make sense, T80 is the best chassis of all Soviet tanks ,engine can be either diesel or turbine , but Turbine has huge reserves to be unlocked.

Yeah, this is far from being optimal vehicle to deal with small UAVs and drones. Its like those people don't follow Ukrainian conflict closely. This thing is going to be spotted and shelled before it will be able to get into effective range of some of drones that are used in current war (like Matrice 30T).

Wonder where they buy the tires for these things as these are not something you can buy in the West its either Russian or Ukrainian made for bazillion of swamp vehicles like Russian Sherp designs that are made  around these low pressure low ply tires , and the vehicle with no suspension and tire design with super low pressure is far from ideal for a stable firing platform
