  1. Morana SPGH from Excalibur Army has its web out now.

    Some info:

    - gun module can be placed on various platforms

    - 155 mm L52 gun (AFAIK same with Zuzana 2)

    - range 41,5 km

    - gun traverse +/-60°

    - fully automated (all crew sits in the front cabin during the mission) with APU for the gun module

    - crew of 3 (driver, commander and gunner), the cabin has 4th seat for potential additional crew member/specialist

    - 6 RPM, MRSI possible

    - manual aiming possible if needed/in emergency

    - direct fire possible with claimed effective range 5 km in daylight and 3 km at night

    - time to first shot from stopping 40 seconds

    - 45 rounds carried

    - integrated retractable RCWS with 12,7 mm HMG for self defence (should be part of the turret)

    - the Tatra vehicle is 8x8 with all four axles steerable (!), 600 Hp, automatic gearbox, 90 km/h, tyre pressure regulation

    - STANAG level 2 protection

The vehicle is a demonstrator at this moment and will probably change in some ways before entering production.

  2. Just a few words to this photo from your link because both things are new.

    Tatra.jpg

The first is the heavy Tatra ARV Treva 30 which is equipped with 30 ton crane and 25 ton winch. The second vehicle shows most likely the configuration for Belgian army, i.e. with a new armoured cabin.

CSG should show also a new development step of their SPGH now with 52 caliber gun.

  3. Don't know where to put it but it's ridiculous, so let's place it here.

840 kg of cocaine approximately for 100 million Euro arrived in two Czech supermarkets in boxes with bananas from Colombia. Someone fucked up and they actually ended up being distributed to supermarkets :D

Some time ago Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW) signed a cooperation agreement with Tatra. The subject of the contract is the design and delivery of a new 4x4 vehicle with complete technical documentation enabling the production of the vehicle in Poland. In my humble opinion the vehicle will use many elements from Patriot II and T 815-7 chassis, whilst being a new product and (from the legal perspective) a different one than Patriot II.

I have read some discussions about the Husar vehicle and from what I could get out of it the HSW Husar is a licensed Patriot II including the cabin.

What was interesting was a note that armoured cabins of Patriot II are currently being produced in Croatian Duro Daković (it also belongs to CSG) for undisclosed user, however I'm quite sure it's not related to the HSW production for Polish army.

It was also stated that Patriot II base cab offers STANAG 3 level of resistance but can offer STANAG 4 with additional ceramic panels.

Newer reports from German Der Spiegel suggest that Spain considers sending only 10-15 tanks to Ukraine, but the whole deal is still discussed internally within the Spanish government.

Considering previous reports from foreign inspections of the vehicles they probably aren't able to make more of them working in short time.

Anyway sending 10-15 Leo 2 to Ukraine makes no sense at all unless it causes some other states to create a bandwagon. If alone they would be more a liability than a help.

  6. Presentation of Embraer KC-390 Millenium to Czech MOD in Pardubice airbase including a short test flight with standard Pandur KBVP (IFV variant) onboard. According to the strategic plan of Czech army buying of a medium lifter is not planned prior 2025 however now with increased funding and the new very active MOD the purchase may come earlier. Since Aero Vodochody is heavily involved in the KC-390 project I don't expect any other plane to have a chance of being selected.

Just for info parts of the plane developed and produced in Czech Republic by Aero Vodochody.

I don't see a picture, but if it is firing rockets for helicopters, than it is not going to have better accuracy. Last time they did that (jihaded rocket pods to Strela-10s) they discovered that rockets fired from stationary vehicle were not stabilised enough and showed much higher spread compared to firing from helicopter or a plane. My guess is that those rockets were designed for certain speed of launch platform.

You are right that now I recall seeing a table which showed how much more accurate S-8 were when fired from planes than from helicopters purely because of higher initial speed. But that applies more for direct fire not that much for the loft fire which is definitely terrible in terms of accuracy (not because of lack of stabilization but because of lack of aim).

Yeah, but still, even with computer calculating impact point and lead, S-8s ain't exactly the epitomy of accuracy when launched like that. Either way, it will be interesting to see if with introduction of M142 and potentially M270 we will see some of these problems go away. I honestly bet it won't change much but im ready to be proven wrong.

Also on the note of lost equipment, with lists like one made by Oryx you would be lead to believe that Ukraine now has more equipment than when the war started, ex. he lists 19 lost MLRS systems for Ukraine and 32 they "captured" from Rus forces, one can argue that making a photo of something doesn't mean it got captured and recovered by UA, but who would bother with such unimportant details.

I think that we don't see majority of artillery/MLRS losses from either side because they are not placed on the frontline and hence why the only ones who could document their destruction would be their own crews. We see from time to time some UAV footage of counter batttery fire but that's IMHO just a tiny part of the artillery duels ongoing.

  9. 1 hour ago, Volke said:

Quite possibly, it is obviously more effective than just dumping rockets over ballistic trajectory and hoping they hit, tho it begs the question, if they are now jerry-rigging such contraptions, are they running low on traditional MLRS systems?

Definitely they don't have enough of them for all the mobilised units - while the army grew rapidly thanks to the mobilisation it also lost a lot of weapons and other machinery in the same time. Another question is ammo which is probably running low due to the sheer scale of the war. AFAIK only several factories in Czechia, Slovakia and Bulgaria are still producing WP artillery ammo and rockets and their production is not enough to cover the Ukrainean war effort.

By the way at least some of the helicopters and planes are equiped with on-board sighting for loft bombing / rocket fire, i.e. it's not total spray and pray but of course the effectiveness is limited (for sure Su-25 Klen-PS targeting system has a loft-mode but of course at least the laser beam needs direct visibility of the target).

  10. Ther smaller China joinned the Rusisan and Belarussian chip ban.

Firms from these two countries are now banned from purchasing Taiwan-made microprocessors or microcircuits which have any of the following specifications: performance speeds of 5 gigaflops or above, clock frequency rates in excess of 25 MHz, an external interconnection with a data transfer rate of 2.5 MB/s or greater, more than 144 pins, or a basic propagation delay time of less than 0.4 nanoseconds.

  11. Few more details about the Czech-German Leopard 2 deal. The gift of the Leo 2A4 contains also certain ammo and spare parts package. The MOD again confirmed that the tanks will be rebuilt to 2A7+ standard after 2025 but they also admitted that it meant that only the turret skelet would be kept from the original 2A4 tanks, i.e. the tanks would be basically built anew.

The MOD speaker also answered several other questions from the media. He stated that our currently used pontoon bridges could hold the Leo 2A4 but could not hold the 2A7+. The MOD is going to buy new ones with allowed load up to 72 tons. Regarding the need to introduce the loader back into the staff of the armed forces (loaders were removed with the end of service of T-55AM2 tanks) he said he didn't see that as an issue.
