  1. Breitling Jet Team chief pilot Jacques Bothelin tested the new L-39NG in Vodochody. He flew part of their usual show to compare with his usual legacy L-39C. It's very nice video, also with his impressions. Plus a photo from testing of operations from unpaved runways. Source: https://twitter.com/warnesyworld/status/1296416249560420353
  2. This article about the Ascod 42 for Czech tender brings some more details to what is actually offered by GDELS. It's basically PR article not any sort of analysis (even though it tries to look like one). https://www.armadninoviny.cz/ascod-42-univerzalni-obrnenec-plnici-pozadavky-ceske-armady.html If I understand right the offered IFV vehicle in 3+8 configuration is 38 tons heavy with 4 tons growth potential. Offeres STANAG 4569 level 5 ballistic protection and 4a/b mine protection. The offered vehicle is powered by the 600 kW MTU 8V MT199 TE21 with RENK HSWL 256B gearbox. The turret is Elbit MT30 Mk.II with 30 mm Mk.44 Bushmaster II and double Spike ATGM launcher. The vehicle is equiped with Iron Fist and Iron Vision. Just like the Pandurs the vehicles shall be built in VOP CZ including local production of turrets (VOP CZ is part of Czechoslovak Group Holding). Clearly GDELS bets on the already established production and co-development chain with local companies and also on the logistics as the vehicle armament is fully compatible with our Pandurs.
  3. Today the long and trouble-free career of Yak-40 ended in Czech Air Force. A short but nice video from the last mission held today.
  4. Thanks. Still presented in Czech camo by the way.
  5. T1 armor package from Roketsan for the Leo A4.
  6. Allegedly another Bayraktar TB2 shot down by SAA few days back.

    UAV thread

Any AV geek to explain why two-blade propeller?
  8. "Another day in Syria" and another episode of the Mad Max series. This time with four injured US tropps from a collision of their MaxxProw with Typhoon-K. This won't end well one day...
  9. We have discussed the K2PL project here on the forum few months ago. It looks possible that Czech Republic would join the project as well (there is quite a lot of talk about it in here). When the Koreans first brough the K2 to MSPO 2018 both Hyundai Rotem and Polish company HCP shared their presentation area with Czech CSG (Tatra Defence, Excalibur Army etc.) which is hardly an accident.
  10. Rosatom released a previously classified 40-minutes long movie about the Tsar bomb test. With English subtitles. Must watch
  11. The old Czechoslovak Vz.52/57 was also an LMG which could have been fed either from magazines (25) or a belt (50 or 100). It was actually a successful design fielded by the army and later copied by the Finns to become the KK62.
  12. This accident is currently blocking a road I need to pass shortly. VT-34 (Czechoslovak ARV based on T-34-85) fell of the trailer after the truck crashed into another car. Photos under the link. https://www.idnes.cz/praha/zpravy/tank-spadl-z-navesu-nehoda-policie-kutnohorsko.A200821_153721_praha-zpravy_rsr/foto/RSR858adb_Ef8iHkTXsAA2arv1.jpg
  13. Video footage surfaced of an event in which Russian Major General died. Obviously there was an IS IED planted on the site of previous convoy attack.
  14. Heron won both the semifinals among the AI systems and also the final against a human pilot in the AlphaDogfight Trials (5:0).
  15. General like general Can you move it, please?
  16. At least one MQ-9 Reaper was shot down over Idlib, possibly by Turkey, maybe two...
  17. According to this article (in Czech) Rheinmetall will build a factory in Hungary as a joint venture with Rába to build the Lynx in Hungary (the investment in the factory shall be around 2 bln Euro). The number of vehicles to be produced for Hungarian army is said to be around 200. The article also states that in 2019 Hungary was the largest military customer for Germany overall. https://www.armadninoviny.cz/madarska-armada-kupuje-nemecka-bojova-vozidla-pechoty-lynx.html There is still no decision on Czech side but it shall be done soon. From what I can say the situation is quite different than with Hungary. There is certain resistance in the army against buying German hardware because German foreign policy is being seen by many as rather unpredictable and inconsistent. For several reasons incdluding this one I personally give higher chances to Ascod.
