  2. Looks like Protector RWS LW30 with the M230 30mm cannon. Can mount Javelin and Stingers too (Best Korea moment?) Big gun for a tank RWS.
  3. M1A2 SEPv3 being used to test a new German railcar to support increased weights. However, interesting to note is that this particular tank came from the prepositioned stocks in Mannheim, Germany. Therefore it seems that at least some portion of US prepositioned armor in Europe is made up of SEPv3 tanks (in a gorgeous three-tone paint job). https://www.army.mil/article/249293
  4. Had the fantastic opportunity to PMCS, boresight, and road test a M1A2 SEPv3 from 4-9 CAV at Ft. Hood today. https://i.imgur.com/X0GEL89.mp4 https://i.imgur.com/h0McxcP.mp4 Many images: I can confirm the photo I posted previously that the turret weight of the SEPv3 31.5 tons (28.6 metric tons). I have a photo of the name plate but I haven't removed the serial numbers to upload it. I also made an extremely rough estimation of the turret armor LOS using my boot and then measuring my boot after (I didn't have a measuring tape on the tank nor did I want to piss off the crew). Using this very rough method I found the armor to be at least 1150mm LOS including the backplate. I may be able to get back on a SEPv3 next Monday.
  5. Turret Weight M1A1 : 23.1 tons (21 metric tons) M1A2 : 26.9 tons (24.4 metric tons) M1A2 SEPv3 : 31.5 tons (28.6 metric tons) Quite the weight jump for the SEPv3. More of an increase over the M1A2 than the M1A2 over a non-DU M1A1.

  7. Does anyone have any information detailing the steel applique armor added on the M2/M3A2 upgrade? I know it's said its believed to stop 30mm fire in the frontal arc.
  8. Video that peaked my interest so I though I'd share. It's the SEPv2 tanks from 2-12 Cav conducting gunnery in Poland, but they have the counterweights for Trophy on. Just some good views of the chunky Abrams.
  9. Correct, according to the patent the tip segment that snaps off should make up 9-15% of the total penetrator mass.

Not sure if this has been posted here before, if so, forgive me. https://patents.google.com/patent/US6662726B1/en?oq=US+6%2c662%2c726+B1 This is a patent by General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems Inc for a kinetic energy penetrator. The initial filing date is 03/08/2000 and the patent was publicized 12/16/2003, which matches up very closely with the M829A3 program. I believe this patent shows the design behind M829A3, feel free to read through and draw you own conclusions. Things I noted: The round is shown defeating what appears to be dual-flyer plate ERA It is said to have a tungsten tip and DU main rod, as opposed to the conventional idea that the tip is steel

  12. Some views through the CITV on an Abrams SEPv2 I got to use today. Incredibly smooth and easy to use, really fun to see which cadets on campus today were a little sweaty.
  13. Branch Week 2020 is starting here at the United States Military Academy and the M1A2 SEPv2 arrived today. And then preceded to smash a light post over with the gun when attempting to rotate the turret.

Exactly, which is why I'm inclined to believe this round is M829A4, as we have seen M829A3 in-flight and it does not look like this: The fatter nose could house the tech/mechanisms necessary for an advanced precursor/tip separation maybe? Just eyeballing it compared to the photos of in-flight M829A3, it does appear longer as well. My really fast and crappy image edit to try and show this. Both projectiles are 12 pixels thick in the image, but due to perspective differences its not perfect.
  17. Screenshots from a video on the Yuma Proving Grounds: Not sure what APFSDS round this is, but it seems to be a generally long rod. M829A3 or A4? Special design used to emulate foreign threats?
