Scolopax got a reaction from LoooSeR in Movie tanks and terrible Vismods
It took me a little bit too, but I believe the answer is rather simple. In the actual driver position, you have a stunt driver doing his thing. For the position in which Mr. Bond appears, a 'secondary' hatch has been created (enough empty space inside to do so I suppose.) This way, the actor can focus on acting and appear to the audience as if he were driving, while someone else actually drives the tank for him.
Also of note is that fact that the T-55 tracks have been exchanged for Chieftain ones with rubber pads. People didn't want to tear up the roads in St. Petersburg apparently.

This is a completely terrifying article on resistant bacteria in cattle feces getting stirred up by dust storms in Texas and Oklahoma.

Scolopax reacted to LoooSeR in General AFV Thread
Title and picture is already showing quality of this article.
Yeah, of course. And T-55 roadwheels, T-34 engine! Does T-90MS also included in "T-90 family"? I would like to see what T-80 had Object 187 turret and Proriv-2 turret.
That engine is so troublesome that T-80Us with GTD-1250 are still in service. Russians moved away not because of trubles with engine itself, economical and political/lobby reasons are main factors.
Yeah, right from T-80UK, called "Shtora".
Or this tank was made with help of UVZ with engineers trying to make it possible to be produced in Iran.
They had produced T-72S, so it is not THAT hard to make T-90/T-90As. Hell, even Indians produce those, while they can't make Arjun work without being mediocre at best.
Comment section is also dumb as fuck.

Scolopax reacted to Walter_Sobchak in The M4 Sherman Tank Epic Information Thread.. (work in progress)
No, as far as I know 75mm shells were literally 75 mm. This is because they are based on the old French 75mm field gun. US 76mm shells are based on the US 3 inch gun, so technically they are 76.2mm. The US 3 inch gun and the US 76mm guns used different ammo, despite having the same bore. Perhaps that is what people are thinking of.
The other confusing bit of tank gun nomenclature is the British 17 pounder and 77mm gun. The British 17 pounder was also a 76.2mm (three inch) gun. The Comet also had a 76.2mm gun, but since it took different ammo than the 17pounder, the British called it a 77mm gun to avoid confusion.

Just so you know, Tank and AFV News.com had reported on it back on July 26. That's right folks, trust Walter to get you all your tank news before you hear it from the mainstream media.

Scolopax reacted to Oedipus Wreckx-n-Effect in Get Away, Damnit. (The Camping Thread)
This is a thread about camping. Camping is the act of purposely leaving the house and wifi connection in order to sleep on the ground, sometimes in the cold. You may choose to consume less than appetizing food and be at the mercy of nature during this time.
This thread can be used for discussion of items one would take during such a time.
I did such an event with my girlfriend this weekend. I drove up some rather ungroomed roads to Crystal Mountain, west of Fort Collins. Here is the proof.

Harvard engineers have started using bacterial strains to produce isopropanol via cyanobacteria photosynthesis.

It's interesting. I'm a big fan of going the bio diesel route with cyanobacteria.
