I hope it is time for this men in tights movies, this super hero bullshit, to die, like Vampire and Zombie movies.
We need more movies like Topgun Maverick, where the airplane is the hero, not some degenerate in tights.

Sure thing buddy, I'm so pro war that I dare condemn Putin for invading a sovereign democratic country (twice!)
So when do you leave for the Ukraine? Surely your crusade must lead to you fighting for freedom?

I found this article that attempts to change the reputation of the F-104.
http://www.916-starfighter.de/Joy of High Tech.htm
Without the electronics to tell the pilot he's being engaged by SAMs I do not see the 104 being able to fight in Vietnam.
When the US Navy went to war in Vietnam, the F-4B did not have a way to detect SAMs either, until the aircrews started buying a commercial radar detector, called the " Fuzz Buster". Lots of Radar guns used the same frequency as the Russian missle sets. To hear its feedback from the FB, they ran single inside the ear speaker, under the rest of their flight gear. It did not give them the direction of the missle, but they at least knew they were coming.

It's really hard to find much info on it, but how did the Army manage to win the Armed Helicopter fight with the Air Force?

A-10s go back in time, lose the battle of Britain to un-escorted Ju-88s
Is that how it really went?

Yeah, the Army would have handled fixed wing CAS better than the Air Force for sure.
-
Yeah, its crazy, we passed laws saying the Army couldn't have armed aircraft... And then people in the service pushed things and got changes. I mean it does make sense, it was the right thing to do from the Army's perspective, because the Air Force had very little interest in CAS. The Fucked up CAS for the Korea war once they got control of all the air assets in country, including the MAWs, in Korea, taking them away from Marine control. It was a shit show. Throw Key West into that, making it so the Army had to depend on the Air Force, while the Marines got to keep all their toys... It was a crazy time. Maybe its just always been crazy...

Another thing to note (apologies for all the combo posting): isn't there an argument that the biggest success of the A-10 as a program was in allowing the USAF to keep denying the army fixed-wing assets on the basis that it was providing CAS? By that metric it was stellar - the army got beaten back all the way to only being allowed rotary-wing aircraft and has never managed to successfully bring up the issue again.
Yeah it's crazy there was an actual inter-service war over this, with the Marines mixed in because the Army was secretly giving them money for the Bronco program if I recall right. The Army had to hide it was looking into arming helicopters cause the Air Force was going to go apeshit when they found out. Crazy shit.

Did it ever kill a tank in anger that wasn't on its own side with its gun?

Maybe they are going to bring in the fail tiger with the big gun/mortar?

That makes no sense even as a joke.
Like, how were the British or Americans "without" strategic bombers? How were they "helpless" considering that the captured tanks tended to be knocked out (in one case by a shell crater)?
Dude, your dumb sentence is making me have a stroke.
Maybe he's being typical Delete, and he's arguing it from the German side, because, they had shit for Naval Artillery, and their Strategic Bomber was a joke. Of course, Delete being a human brick, he probably thinks the German Navy was Amazing, and their strategic Bombers more advanced than the B-29...
It's just so hard to tell with this guy.

British and American evaluation of the Tiger Ausf.B. Sadly not very interesting reports, only static factors like ergonomy, building quality or material composition was evaluated. The armor was not fired upon, the resistance was only calculated. The early rounded turret was found to be extremely bad from material point of view with variable material thickness, plates on one side hardened and on the other side not. There was no test driving done (possible a short drive was done but that is not confirmed) and no reliability testing. Turret rotation was tested by the Americans.
Was it a case of "This thing is such a pile of trash, we better not run it?"

If he put the same amount of energy into doing that as he does litigating these ridiculous arguments he'd have a finished entry already.
He might earn a little respect too, and anything would be better then the complete lack he has right now.

@delete013 here's a serious suggestion for you: design a tank. We have a competition going on right now, in fact, and you can put together an entry pretty easily so long as you have some access to CAD modeling software (free programs such as Sketchup are accepted).
Really - go through the process of designing a gun, a turret, a hull. Fit an engine, mock up a semi-realistic transmission system. Make hard choices as you try to balance firepower, ergonomics, armour protection, power-to-weight ratio, ground pressure and range. Really get to grips with the subject.
Then come back and tell us what you think of a particular design as an engineer rather than a partisan.
He will not do this, because it would require effort on his part.

Been messing around with the Gaijin War Thunderish FPS called Enlisted, its in Beta. Surprisingly fun. Kinda gives me BF2 vibes, but has a squad mode where you have a bunch of dudes to order around and you can jump into any of them at any time. So you can have infantry squads, and if you want to snipe, you jump to the sniper, if he is still alive. Want to charge a room, switch to a guy with an SMG.

Ah, the typical Western front Tiger story:
- scratch unit (because most of the effort is in the East)
- breakdowns start immediately
- mauled by infantry
- more breakdowns
- mauled by infantry and halftracks
- one successful engagement (that wehraboos won't shut up about)
- yet more breakdowns
- outfoxed by Comets and their 'quick reversing'
- fail to reposition
- get ouflanked and shot in the side
Yeah, how many tigers and Panthers were lost for 3 Shermans again?
So is Felton a boo?
What are we playing?

I slowly grinding my soul away on WarThunder, trying to get an F4J and F-14. The F-8 is pretty fun.
