No, the ROKIT program that became K1 was designed substantially later, and actually subcontracted mostly out to GDLS - the inheritors of the Chrylser Defense group that designed the M1.
Army liked the GM's armor layout, FCS, and ability to fit the 120mm. But they *really* had a hankering for the Turbine powerplant of Chrysler's offering. So they basically came out and said they wanted a hybrid tank that was mostly like GM's but with the turbine drivetrain. Chrylser's offer to redesign their machine won the bid over GM's redesign, helped by Chrysler having some political favoritism.

Might as well repost this from the AW forum.
(Thanks @Laviduce for taking the time to incorporate the label in English directly)
The translations I did back then were quite literal since I'm not really a mechanics guy, so it may sound awkward.
Scans comes mainly from 2 books I have.
V8X Hyperbar and the ESM500 gearbox:
Principle scheme of the engine:
1) Autoadaptation valve of the turbine
2) Discharge valve
3) Turbine
4) Compressor
5) Air intake regulation valve (secondary combustion chamber)
6) Secondary combustion chamber
7) Cooling unit of air intake
8 Ignition
Kinematic chain:
Didn't tried to translate that one since I'm not too good are reading this kind of diagram.
Ask if you need me translate something in particular.

They praised the T-80U. And probably they were often used for exercises.

Nusra's T-90 in current assault in Northen Hama. Something is wrong with gun barrel, it is shorter than it should be.

That’s Suspicious reacted to Molota_477 in Vehicles of the PLA: Now with refreshing new topic title!
Though, I found these fresh photos of T-72 Ural scrapped in China. Someone have uploaded them into public networks. (Also, there is someone said that there are still available T-72M and T-72B collected in Plant 617, but have no more photo infos can prove that we have the second T-72. BTW, The T-80U might be located in Beijing Tank museum but do not show to public )

That’s Suspicious reacted to Akula_941 in Iranian new MBT “Karrar”‘s new TV show and some detail i notice
12 March fresh new video here
just so many of good footage, praise the IRINN.IR
so,Karrar MBT aka T-90MS mod 2017 Iranian limited Edition 2.0
Has finally have a bit long TV report, and what is this?
when i see this ‘barrel protective case’ thing, the only thing in my mind is
"NO,T-72I4! It's him! He is Back!"
but after watch the video i pretty sure it's nothing but reference ~
first noticed difference is the ERA kit
Karrar 'ERA kit is smaller, have 6 plate on each slide front
compare to T-90MS 's 4 larger size Relikt ERA
the thickness of the ERA are pretty close so i guess it's just the smaller new Relikt variant
RCWS/Commander panoramic sight Station
huge muzzle brake but it seems just a 7.62mm RCWS,but looks cool
also the sight itself looks a cheaper product compare to T-90MS
Digital map, commanding system and Vehicle information Display
this is pretty good, Karrar may have the best digital equipment in all Iranian tanks, not even Zulfiqar-3
normal vision channal of the commander sight
for the gunner,i noticed something interesting
now this is something new, the Karrar have a whole new gunner sight,so obviously the new gunner sighting system is not simply rip-off from russian
but the really interesting thing is, it keeps the 1K13,which compare to T-90MS removed 1A45 completely and replaced by Sosna-U and a back up sight
why is this? @Lightning think, that Iran hasn't prepare or able to create their own laser guide coding equipment,if they want to use 9K120 ATGM system, they need keep the 1K13 for laser coding
which i found is a high possibility that could be true
karrar‘s gunner displayer compare to T-90MS
let's expect more information of this tank in the future

Abrams in Iraq got Fagot ATGM into turret side. Still moved some distance, but was left behind so ISIS camera crew got a closer look.

Conner,
The Yugo guns are a weird mix of a bunch of elements as Tito preferred it from what I understand!
Using the rifle grenade launchers as an example, they're actually the NATO standard (22mm diameter right guys) rifle grenade interface.
That is why my handful of Israeli pattern practice grenades and my nearly ww2 vintage strap a pineapple grenade to a tail fin kit work.
Additionally there's some divergent dimensions here and there in Yugo AK's that I've "heard" show at least some Chinese type 56 lineage rather than straight Warsaw pact pattern.
I have a splitting headache so please forgive me for any egregious mistakes in this post.
On the note of Yugo AK's and Zastava in particular, have you seen the switch barrel switch caliber bulged trunnion guns Zastava built for their Grendel experiments?
Very very simple barrel change, and to my eye it looks like the key parts of the system prone to wearing out from repeated installation/removal are simple cheap robust and easily replaceable!
In my world this is extremely exciting, and a little vexing because of just how ****ing easy making a switch bbl Ak turned out to be!!!
Real WTF? Why didn't I think of this moment!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the sight in question is for a grenade launcher.
